Hotspot Ess Paradies

We visited this place because I was missing some German classics such as Spätzle, Frikadella, etc. And this place has both and more! A nice concise menu, friendly service and frequented by Germans too! However, the dishes were not very authentic although they were tasty. I’ll definitely recommend it and would visit again as its nice and cheap and still better than no German food at all!

Hotspot ESS Paradies is exactly what you hope it will be. The schnitzel are large, the German beer is extensive, and the prices are very reasonable. Expect to pay £7−8 for a main, just under £4 for a beer (500ml, no pints in this restaurant).
The place is run by a German looking and sounding gentleman (probably an actual German, but I didn’t check his passport to be sure) who has simply transplanted an authentic restaurant direct from Hamburg, it seems (other than the décor of German cookbooks and celebrity pictures, which is delightful but very expat). The menu is schnitzel, wurst, goulash and some slightly curious specials such as the Bavarian Farmer’s Platter which seems to be a German take on a full English. All of it is cooked to perfection, with the schnitzel in particular being at least as tender and delicious as what you’d pay for at somewhere twice as pricey.
Speaking of the prices, 5 of us ate two courses each with a couple of beers per head and the bill came to £86 (service not added). That’s really not shabby, especially for Chorlton. Mains portion sizes are pretty generous, too.
With the bill comes a handwritten voucher to get 25% off starters and desserts at your next visit. A visit I hope I’ll be making very soon.

You know you are in an authentic German restaurant when the likes of stephie graph and boris becker are staring down at you while you tuck into your schnitzel. Had a lovely meal at chorlton’s very own German restaurant hotspot ess paradies. We ordered the potato pancakes which were delicious. Loved the home made apple sauce that accompanied them. My husband had the Weiner schnitzel which was very tender and authentic. There was also a great selection of beer. We went for the bitburger which was nice and light. The place is family run and the owners are very knowledgeable about their food and above all friendly. It is more like being in a café than a restaurant. The décor is interesting to say the least with copies of German cook books and an autobarn manual on display. Will be back to sample some more traditional German fare.
