We stock all the top brands such as UGG Australia, Converse, Hunter, Juju, Dr Martens, Vans, Kickers, Lelli Kelly (for children and adults) and many more!

We stock Men’s, Ladies and Children’s shoes, and offer a full measure and fit service for children in-store.

We’re located on the upper floor of the Arndale centre, opposite Waterstones.

History

Established in 1975.

We are an independent, family run business which was set up by Jake’s mum in the 1970’s in her old hairdressing salon! Since then we have continued to grow and now have two physical stores and an online store. We are still family run to this day, and our customers remain our top priority!

I’m a fairly normal guy (well, as normal as normal can be), I live locally and have 2 kids. I love my job (most of the time) and my favourite bit about Jake is buying for the forthcoming season then seeing all my customers purchasing — it means i’ve done my job right!

Buyer beware! I have not been to the shop but rather bought some shoes online and ordered some Lelli Kelly school pumps for PE. These were advertised in UK sizes by Jakes Shoes but are actually Italian shoes so do not come in UK sizes of course!
Jakes Shoes sent me their notion of a UK 13 which is TINY and not a UK 13 at all but rather a European 31. My daughter fits a UK 13 with some ‘growing space’ so these were NOT comparable to the UK size.
I drily complained but was given no courtesy whatsoever but indifference and rudeness by Jakes Shoes who did not acknowledge their error but told me without a shred of politeness that I could return the shoes for only £3! Lucky me!
I will have to ‘flog’ these useless shoes at school and buy more elsewhere (i will NEVER shop at Jakes Shoes again) as I refuse to pay return postage for an error on their part and furthermore for them to send me more bizarrely sized shoes!

Finally a challenger to the high street shoe shop crown. Whilst I think Office might need to be worried by the emergence of a shop like Jake, I think the King that is Schuh will be ok for a while yet.
Jake is located on the upper floor of the Arndale Centre near shops like Apple and Waterstone’s.
It stocks some really quite cool casual shoes and pumps for men, but lots of the women’s shoes are kind of a bit tacky in my opinion. I wouldn’t be too impressed if my girlfriend came home wearing some the sticky and shiny leather numbers Jake stock.

Jakes has a great selection of shoes and trainers I haven’t seen anywhere else. They have a bigger range of kids and womens than mens but the quality of the brands is good. If you can’t get down the shop they have a website which is good. Funny the mention of crocs on other reviews as now a crocs shop is below Jakes. I am not sure if they still sell crocs but they have lots of uggs. I guess they spot the trends before everyone else. I got a fine pair of trainers last week and unlike most shops I doubt I will see many if anyone else wearing the same, worth the extra in my book.

This is a place to head to in the sales!
Last year I got some amazing knee high leather boots for £40! They’re gorgeous and have lasted me the whole year, even in Manchester; the land of puddles!
They have tons of choice and a great kids range too.
They have a good range of Ugg boots too and were the only shop where I could find the ones I wanted for my sister earlier in the year.
Admittedly, it’s pretty expensive most of the year but during the January sales you’re sure to bag yourself some beautiful bargains… if I haven’t snapped them up first that is!

I must have been in here 3 or 4 times but I’ve ever found anything that’s caught my eye. Not for lack of choice, it’s just that when it comes to footwear, for me I prefer to find something a little different and quirky but Jake’s to me only offers middle-of-the-road labels and lesser known brands that don’t quite make the grade.
A lot of the shoes feel over designed or even copied from better known brands — there is a lack of originality. It’s a shame because as an independent store it could take a few risks to stand out from the crowd.

«What do you mean you’ve never heard of us? We have a few known brands… mixed in amongst all the unkown ones– but that just makes them like gems doesn’t it? Most of our staff members left school at 16 and as such we have them over a barrel so you can be sure that when not hungover from a staff night out where John was sick on the buffett table and Leslie cheated on her boyfriend with ‘fat’ Phil, they will provide an adequete service (ie they will go and get your size). Being independant we HAVE TO stock shoes you won’t see in chain stores that can afford the very best, but we’re plucky and that’s what really counts isn’t it? Isn’t it?

This the one of the only places in Manchester to get those God awful plastic shoe things that are apparentley called Crocs! They come in all colours, and you can get a pair for all of the family here! Aswell as other brands such as lellie kellies for little girls.

I loved Jakes when it was on Kings Street for it’s super attentive staff and fabulous range of unusual footwear. The Art range in particular and love or hate them, it was one of the first places in Manchester to get Crocs (and kiddie Crocs). But since the move into the Arndale, it seems to have lost some of that unique feel. The mens and childrens sections are larger but the large Lellie Kellie display seems to dominate, layout with kids in tow in pretty awful and getting the pram round near impossible — poor given they sell a large range of labelled baby shoes. The quality of the women’s shoes seems to have dropped. I can describe some merely as cheap tat. It’s a shame as they were my first port of call once I’d bought a new outfit.
