So you’ve moved to a new city, you’ve been working solidly since you did and not in the city center for that matter either. So after your first few weeks in town do you really know anywhere to go? — No. And then you meet someone, you like her, you ask her what she’s doing Friday night, she says nothing(you play it cool at this stage). You say lets go for drinks, maybe some food. She smiles, you pick a time… and that’s when you panic. Where the hell are you going to eat?! The only place you’ve been for food is tesco’s express and your fairly sure it doesn’t have a table waiting policy! It is this point in our story that any good friend of yours whose lived in manchester half a day will recommend Mal Maison. Its not the cheapest affair, two drinks at the bar coming to £11, but you’re guaranteed quality. I did venture here on a friday night as it happens, without a booking. I was asked to go to the bar, get a drink, and they’d seat me when they could. Far from being the long cold wait i’d feared and the death of the night, we were seated 5 minutes later! The waiter was attentive, had some good advice for my dinner companion who was unsure what to get. The food came surprisingly quickly for how well it was cooked. And what food! A heroic portion of steak(you must get the steak!) proper home made fries and some kind of bewitching dipping sauce that i would have stolen if only i had pockets suited to the task of smuggling liquids! Its a difficult 5 star as the price means you probably won’t go there often. But the food, the service, the atmosphere and the overall experience were amazing. Our surprise and enjoyment made the night, and for a man without a car its location is perfect. A hotel above and a train station opposite, braced by two taxi ranks. I really enjoyed myself here and though it won’t be a while till i return i can see no reason why it won’t be the same or better when i do.

The Brasserie at the Malmaison Hotel openly prides itself on its use of local produce fashioned into simple and tasty dishes. And it does exactly what it says on the tin. The Brasserie’s menu is short and sweet, and although that might seem boring or over-simplified, its exactly the opposite. The few simple dishes are finely tuned to perfection and are just really really tasty! The Malmaison Brasserie is renowned for it’s Sunday lunch that has been given the accolade by many as «the best roast in Manchester», and again, it really is. When it says with all the trimmings, it MEANS with ALL the trimmings. And to top it all off the meat is fresh and juicy and doesn’t taste like the standard microwaved rubbish that seems commonplace in this cost-cutting day and age. The place has a nice ambience to it as well, and despite being in a hotel, you don’t feel like you’re just in a small part of something bigger. The Brasserie is a place in it’s own right and feels warm and relaxing. The Brasserie is WAY above it competitors in the«posh pub grub» market and is most certainly worth a visit.

The Malmaion Brassiere is the restaurant attached to Malmaison Hotel across from Piccadilly Train Station(See my Malmaison Review). This brassiere’s interior is a dramatic an is made up of black and white with dashes of vibrant red. This place just like the hotel has making you their welcome guest down to a fine art. The staff know everything there I to know about the menu and wines to compliment each course. The food is delicious and I am a massive fan of their homegrown menu– locally sourced food that is packed with flavour yet so simple at the heart of it. The only downside I can find with this one is the dilemma I face when it comes to choosing which one of the many tempting deserts I should pick .A bonus is that if you are too stuffed and tipsy to walk home you have one of the best hotels in Manchester upstairs.
