I have been visiting Mancoco since Stuart opened the roastery a few years ago. They have gone from strength to strength since then with the opening of the coffee shop and a recent refit. The chaps know their stuff and are happy to chew that fat for hours on end about coffee. The addition of lovely sandwiches and lots of gorgrous cakes from the Brownie Owl make me very lucky to have Mancoco just round the corner from the office.

Hidden away under an arch on Hewitt Street is the Mancoco Roastery and coffee shop. It’s in a great location to walk to from Deansgate tram stop and grab a coffee on the walk to HOME or the universities. Quite a small coffee shop side, but they clearly do most of their business through the roastery and local office trade. They make a great flat white. Very friendly staff. They asked about my weekend and when I mentioned I’d been to Heaton Hops on Friday, they offered up the tidbit that they have recently collaborated on a Coffee Stout with TicketyBrew which I can’t wait to try.

ManCoCo is a small Manchester city centre based coffee roaster that has been going for a couple of years underneath a railway arch near Deansgate train station, if you’ve been to food markets you may have seen them selling their wares. Luckily for me, they’ve decided to recently expand their operation to include freshly made coffee on the premises, and it’s great stuff too. The flat white I popped in for this morning was rich and smooth, with hints of hazelnut. I can’t claim to be the world’s authority on coffee making, but it can’t harm that the coffee beans are roasted mere feet away from where they’re ground and brewed. The interior is fairly spartan at the moment, what with it recently opening to the public, the guys are planning to smarten the bar area up though I quite like the industrial look to it, I’m also a fan of places like this that use otherwise redundant spaces(see my review of First Chop Brewing Arm) — there’s enough space for maybe ten people(at a push), so ManCoCo promises to be a great addition to Manchester’s coffee scene and more importantly somewhere near my work that serves a great brew, with beans I can take home!
