Mantax

Coming from Canal Street, the driver assumed we were drunk and took us all the way to Fallowfield after clearly stating our address in Rusholme, Watching GPS on our phones, the driver ignored our repeated requests to follow the way to our destination and refused to let us leave the vehicle. We ended up paying almost £20 for what would have cost us no more than £7 with UBER or Street Cars even at peak times. Quite obviously, all the other 4 reviews on Unilocal were written by owners, family or friends of the company. Never again.

I travelled with Mantax on a short journey today, this was one of the services where the taxis wait for you at a taxi rank.
My driver was very nice and polite, as I was struggling with my mobility, she came walking out to me, to ask if I was okay and to assist in anyway she could, she even offered to help me getting in and out of the car (as it was a black cab with a step), and get the wheelchair ramp.
She talked to me to make sure I was okay and she was a very nice driver and polite, she also didn’t complain because the journey was so short, some taxi drivers may react angrilly to short journeys or mutter under their breath, but she didn’t appear to do so.
Black Cabs are normally alot more expensive, but this journey actually worked out cheaper than what it has done in a normal car.
This is the first time I have used Mantax, and it does tempt me to call them out more often. As much as I would like to, I don’t want to give 5 stars because I don’t know if all drivers like this, if they are not consistent I don’t want to give 5 stars but for now I feel 4 stars is a very fair rating, and I hope to come back with an updated five star review very soon.

Easily the most reliable taxi service in the city, Mantax are almost always on time and know where they’re going. They don’t stretch as far across Greater Manchester as some other firms, but this means that there are usually drivers within reach and they know their region well.
Highly recommended.

Four stars for inspiration, information and business savvy.
Not content with driving people around the world’s first industrial town, several of the drivers at Mantax Taxis had the great idea to pool their collective knowledge of the city’s great landmarks, architecture and history and start offering Manchester Taxi Tours.
Whilst I’ve always preferred exploring cities on foot, I can see the appeal for those that don’t have the time, energy or lung capacity to wander round with a map. All the drivers double as tour guides and are passionate about the city and it’s history. Tours last one or two hours with a set price of £30 per hour for groups of upto 5 people.
If you’re wanting to visit specific buildings or areas — for example Chinatown — you’re best to request these when you phone up to book. Otherwise, points of interest include Manchester Cathedral, Albert Square, Manchester Town Hall, Portico and John Rylands libraries, Manchester University, Imperial War Museum and select 18^th Century Mills. Even better, you can see all this from the comfort of a back seat without someone’s rucksack digging in your ribs!

Mantax is a very reliable taxi service, one of the largest taxi companies in Manchester. I’ve never had a problem with the taxi being late or a driver not knowing where they’re going. They’re a family run business and they’ve got both female and male drivers, something that will put nervous female travellers at ease, and they’re all very friendly.
They have wheelchair accessible taxis and also mini buses to hire. You can pay by credit card too, always a bonus.
