Marks & Spencer Simply Food

i am a big fan of m & s but this store has to be the poorist lay out ever conseved you cant find anything and i know there are some goodys to be had! also the staff are just plain rude always chatting to each other as the que gets longer!

Does anyone make a nicer sandwich than M&S? Yes, they’re a bit on the pricey side. But when I invest in one of these beauties, it makes my day. My chosen flavour often depends on my budget, but I’m quite partial to a cheese and celery. However, I hear M&S is about to launch a cheese and Marmite sandwich for the princely sum of £1, which is very exciting indeed!
Sandwiches aside, I also like buying picnic food from here in the Summer. With everything from tasty salad bowls and scotch eggs to hummus and falafel, it’s the perfect place to pick up a few snacks for an impromptu picnic in Didsbury Park or Fletcher Moss! It’s also a good place to find beautiful tins of chocolates and biscuits at Christmas or gorgeous Easter eggs. Yeah, they could be cheaper. But they look and taste lovely!
This shop also runs regular ‘Two Eat in for £10′ promotions, which allows you to pick up a two-​course meal with wine for a tenner! This promotion is particularly good for carnivores you can get a big hunk o’ meat as part of the deal. But the choice can be a little poor for veggies. Still, I recommend the Moussaka.
My one gripe about Marks and Sparks is that nearly all the food is pre-​prepared. It’s very hard to pick up the basic ingredients to make a meal from scratch. Sometimes you have to queue for a while in this particular store, too. But it does seem to move pretty quickly!

Marks and Spencers is a great little shop which sells high quality basics. It is situated in Didsbury Village which is about 25 minutes from the centre of Manchester. It sells food, drinks, accessories, some mens and womens clothes, kids clothes, toys, greetings cards and wrap, and has plenty of choice. It isn’t the largest Marks and Spencers in Greater Manchester but it is in a great location, well stocked and well used. The staff are lovely and there is free parking available nearby which is very handy. I will give this four out of five for being a great little Marks and Spencer right in the heart of Didsbury and loved by the area.

I would never do my weekly food shop here (unless I won the lottery) but I do use this shop once every couple of weeks when I can’t be bothered to cook and when they have the ‘2 can dine for £10′ offer on. This includes a main, a side, a dessert and a bottle of wine for £10. The fish pie, the salmon and the goat’s cheese filo pastries are all great and it is such a saving as the wine and puddings are £3−4 each alone. Unfortunately most of Didsbury seem to have the same idea, and you have to either get there early or be prepared to use your elbows whilst selecting the components of this deal.
I would disagree with James B. about M&S being another corporate giant taking over every high street. It’s more like Woolworth’s (was, RIP) — it doesn’t pose a threat to any local businesses and it’s a British institution. I would also disagree with Alexandra S. — there are lots of young professionals and families living in this area who M&S Simply Food is targeted at, and the few students who live there will shop predominantly at Aldi, Tesco and Co-​op (but maybe treat themselves when the loan first comes through!).

This Marks and Sparks seems a little out of place in a predominantly student area. Maybe I am out of touch but three years ago when I was at Uni it was baked beans and pasta all the way.
Saying this Marks and Sparks has just introduced a back to basics range to compete with Waitrose, so for all you rich students out there that can’t bear to be away from mommie’s and popsy’s you needn’t struggle too much.

Whilst evil Yankee behemoth Starbucks gets a lot of (admittedly deserved) flak for being so densely populated in Manchester, good old ‘British as the Queen’ M&S seems to escape similar treatment.
Has nobody noticed their growing numbers?
Has nobody noticed the Marks and Sparks devil offspring mini stores popping up on every redeveloped corner or every new outlet, public transport station or mall?
No? Oh… um…well this is embarrassing… couldn’t you have just stopped me a little earlier? Maybe before the whole ‘devil offspring’ bit?

Didsbury Village really wouldn’t be the same without this branch of M & S, it sums up such a lot about the Didsbury lifestyle. We all know the food is more expensive than you’re likely to find in any other supermarket, but we know it also has more style and class than its neighbour Aldi. Its true when they say you get what you pay for. I’ve rarely been disappointed by the M&S food ranges, and their £10 deals are fantastic value for money, no wonder the supermarkets cottoned on to that one.

This is the place to go to if you have been working late and want a ready meal form. I also go here in my lunch hour as their sandwiches are the best out of all the supermarkets but you and be queuing for a while at lunchtime as it gets busy

i find the chain, marks and spencers to be a fantastic place to shop for your grocessarys. the food is gorgeous but quite expensive, defiently worth it though!

I this store because of its staff. They are fantastic. Incredibly friendly, cheery, helpful and patient. They give it a real village shop feel. Didsbury Village is anything but now — over run with bar chains, a gazillion hairdressers and places to eat but when you shop in M&S, you really would be forgiven to think you’d popped into a local independent as it’s a community feel especially early morning when it’s not too busy and they’re stocking the shelves. Weekends with the current dine for £10 are a little manic.
Do however pop a few doors down to the Cheese Hamlet for your dairy and deli needs as this truly is the epitome of traditional service and knowledge. love

M & S Simply Food stores are a pretty glamorous corner shop store. This one opened a year or so back in the ground flood of a fairly pleasant and modern apartment block in the centre of Didsbury Village. M & S do this type of store very well indeed. The food is pricier than your average store but it’s usually worth it and the range much broader (than the Tesco/Somerfield/Sainsbury’s similar stores).
I guess if I lived in the village I’d use this store fairly often (the fresh pizzas are usually a cut above the rivals). The fresh fruit and veg is, well, fresh, fruity and vegetable like (honestly some places wrong this up big time). Fair Trade fresh coffees (a dedicated fair trade section in fact) fine wines and newspapers and magazines.
The clothes departments often have an air of boredom and decades past (the ghost of John Inman exclaiming ‘I’m free’ filters through my mind in these stores) but the food department gets it just right. Despite initial reservations about this type of store opening on Didsbury high street, the independent food stores seem to be as busy as ever, so perhaps there sometimes is room for both.
