Mufti Hairdressing

Ok so this happens for my second visit, not my first… My first was not as good to be honest but I can’t really blame the salon for that, just my hair being very hard to get right.
Not so for my second visit, my appointment was with a guy called jack… Amazing hairdresser…
5 years back my hairdresser left Pierre Alexander and being the only person who ever got my hair even close to how I liked it, I’ve spent 5 years with crappy cut after crappy cut, hairdressers and barbers giving me what they figured suited me and never quite listening to how I actually wanted it.
Jack took painstaking care to get it just how I like it, talking through it with each step and making sure to check before cutting too much off… Basically I got my best haircut in 5 years and it felt awesome… This place deserves the 5star!
Next time you need a cut, make this your spot ;)

I had my hair cut here just before christmas.
Having found it on Unilocal with good reviews I booked an appointment with a very friendly guy who madgre me feel very welcome!
An immediate plus point was they were able to book me in 2 days before christmas eve which was great as I was DESPERATE!
SO with hairdressers, they really get a bum deal with reviews, because, even if you have fabulous customer service from the beginning to end and a really friendly lovely hairdresser… if you don’t like your cut you are pretty much always going to give it a bad review!
So with that in mind… I had a lovely guy doing my hair called Michael who was quite chatty but not too much, which suits me as I like to chill out in peace and quiet when I get my hair done!
He used all amazing tigi products on my hair and gave a very relaxing head massage whilst washing my hair. Though when I asked (probably shouldn’t have done this) about what he thought about the quality of my hair was… REALLY BAD!
He was so so deeply shocked that I hadn’t had my hair cut in nearly 2 years his eye balls nearly fell out his head! It would have been funny if I hadn’t had felt so embarassed…
Wanting to get on a different topic of convo I asked him what products he would recommend using on your hair, as I’m always looking for new ones!
He didn’t really give me a straight answer and when I said I used tresemme (sorry but its always on offer in Tesco) he said he wouldn’t wash his DOG with that!
I know I get it, he was a really sassy and quite cool NQ guy but COME ON?! Way to make a girl feel good about herself!
So all in all, I enjoyed my cut but please cut out the offensive banter, it would have been funny but when you’re having your hair cut in a new place you feel pretty exposed and ugly already ok?!
He cut a bit more than I wanted off my hair but that was because of my ‘horrendous’ split ends.
So if you love being insulted and paying a medium level price (with student discount) this is your place! I didn’t fall in love here and wasn’t made to feel fabulous so I’m not sure I would go back.
But hey I’m fussy, if you’re a hipster cool NQ person this would suit you down to the ground!

I came here because obviously i was looking for a hair dresser to get my hair cut…
I have serious trust issues when it comes to hair dressers because they love to hack my hair off… using my trusty Unilocal app I decided to come here because of the strong reviews.
What I do not understand is why the door is locked all the time. you have to ring the door bell to be let in… the only time I have experienced something similar to this is an expensive jewelry shop… but this made less welcoming to do this here…
When I had come here previously to book an appointment, i had noted the price board on the counter. which i ignored thinking ‘hey I am only getting a trim’… When I came in for my appointment the lady was quite welcoming and she did take my copious amount of baggage, brolley and coat…
When I sat down she was really attentive and very precise of what she was doing. The only down side was the frequent comments of how ‘fine my hair was’, the colour and when it was cut how she still was not happy with this… i. e she wanted to cut more off… yes my hair is fine… but there is nothing I can do about that… plus I don’t think my hair is in that bad a condition!
When I went to pay I was a little surprised how I was still charged £35 …I would only justify spending that much if I had gone in for a complete new style i. e long to a short bob. which I did when I was young and stupid… To get two inches off and a wash and blow dry I think £20 tops is ideal it does not matter what salon it is… unless it was Nicky Clark himself cutting it… I think those that are slightly waggish who come here for a complete cut and colour might find this an ideal place… but even though the cut was very good I do not think its worth the money… and they were quite snobbish when I asked for product recommendations ‘oh I do not buy shop products only salon ones so I would not know” well just remember not everyone has access to salon product…
Basically come here perhaps for a complete make over but for general maintenance find somewhere else… potentially even a barber

Always a pleasure to get my hair cut in Mufti. Great, friendly atmosphere.

Firstly I need to say a BIG thank you to Unilocal for helping me find a good hairdresser that doesn’t cost you a bomb!
Mufti was right round the corner from my house and I never knew about it (I need to really open my eyes now). I had been looking for a good stylist for a while now and always landed up going to the safe places like Tony and Guy or other generic salons (they were not very friendly to my pocket) but Mufti definitely was an eye opener.
My experience:
I call them randomly asking for an appointment on the same day (talk about pushing my luck) and guess what I actually got one in the next 2 hours. I walked in and the friendly owner immediately offered me tea/​coffee and send a stylist in the next 5 minutes for consultation. I was impressed by the film magazines they had instead of just fashion and hair magazines. The stylist spoke to me with a lot of patience and suggested some good tips for my hair (unlike a lot of them who are just rude and seem like they are doing you a massive favor) and she washed my hair herself instead of making someone else do it. While she was doing her magic tricks with my hair she kept me entertained by asking me about my life/​job and shared funny stories about hers (she seemed interested and not just talking for the heck of it). Finally the cut was done and I was more than happy because she gave me exactly the cut I was looking for and to top it all gave me a 10% discount because it was my first time!
Verdict: If you are looking for a good haircut and don’t want to spend a fortune, you should definitely give Mufti a try! I am definitely going back there again! :)

After several years of trying to find a hairdresser who actually listened to what I wanted doing and gave me great advice based around that, I think I have finally found them.
I went to Mufti hairdressers on Saturday after months of being fed up of my current stylists. They did a great job and I’m delighted with the results.
From a price perspective, to say that they are a city centre stylist, they are very competitive.

Been having my haircut here for 3 years, this place is more about style than fashion, it’s a good chilled vibe and not too expensive. I’d recommend it and have been back again and again, they were very flexible fitting me in on a busy weekend.
My wife liked my haircut — she said I looked cool ‘like a cross between Blake Fielder-​Civil and a moor hen’.
Next time I go I am going to ask them to give me a price to open on a Sunday and help me shave a donkey on a number 1, so I can try and make some money renting the donkey out for Hare Krishna picnics during the summer.
Seriously though great hairdressers very friendly good music too.

I discovered Mufti by chance and as I usually dread going to the hairdressers I’m really glad I finally found a decent place in the city centre at fairly reasonable prices. The staff all seem really friendly and it’s a nice relaxed atmospherenot too ‘try hard’ like lots of places.
Carl cut my hair on my first visit when I just popped in without an appointment and I was so pleased i’ve returned to him another ⁵⁄₆ times. He always listens to my suggestions, offers up some much needed advice and I always come away with a haircut I like. Hopefully he’ll be around for a while as I can’t be bothered with the hassle of finding another one that’s as good!

Well, it was only a matter of time before I would begin the healing process. After all, one’s hairdresser disappearing from this plane of existence shouldn’t mean my barnet will go forever untouched, no. And as you may be aware from my former Mufti review, I badgered a friend of mine into visiting them. I booked myself an appointment for Saturday with very high expectations, and they were met gallantly.
Mufti is cool, there’s no denying it. It’s in the Northern Quarter for starters, it’s run by guys, the music is unbelievably mellow and lovely and it’s simple, clean and relaxing. They had me at the film magazines by the sofa. You might not be able to pick a hairdo from them but you can read through which films should have been TV shows. Agreed, journalists! Empire Records should SO have been a series, as should Watchmen.
Ahem, where was I. Not that I’m leaving Salvation (
), it just feels a little weird to walk in there without Alex, but I was more than intrigued to see what Mufti could do with my stupid hair type. Over the years I’ve tried and failed to make it more manageable, the only thing that really worked for me was a pixie cut. Now I’ve ill-​advisedly grown it long again and its natural wave and supposed ‘thinness but lots of it’ have got the better of me.
Hair, meet Karl, a genius, a lovely guy who washed my hair himself without getting some floor sweeper to do it and asked me questions about my hair routine throughout. I think he could tell from the clobber that I’m something of a vintage junkie, and my resulting style reflected that. A snip, a tweak, some conversations about Alex (he knew him very vaguely), advice on hair products and a confirmation that my hair is indeed thick (take THAT, Headmasters) and that short layers are fooling me into thinking my hair’s manageable later, I looked in the mirror and was greeted with a silky head of waves worthy of a 40s movie star.
I’m a convert.

I had lived in Manchester three years before I managed to get a decent haircut. Three years of student union hack-​jobs, of wallet– crippling ‘restyles’, of lopsided training college trims. Wherever I went the tatty mop of my hair would always finish up looking exactly the same. I assumed that this was my own fault; a cosmic punishment for not buying fair-​trade bananas maybe. I had given up, was on the verge of using a pair of kitchen scissors just to keep the floppy mess out of my face when a friend recommended that I try Mufti. I was dubious. I imagined with its Northern Quarter location that it would be staffed by sneering hipsters charging if-you-have-to-ask-you-can’t-afford prices. Instead I was made to feel welcome and in a brief consultation, just before the wash, was asked exactly what it was I wanted out of a haircut. The stylist was active in this brief discussion, took into account what I was asking for and was honest, but not brutal, about what he thought would and would not work. This was refreshing as usually my own plans for what should happen to my hair were either completely ignored, resulting in annoying and faintly disconnected feeling cuts, or were followed painstakingly, resulting in equally annoying but usually more embarrassing hairstyles.
Throughout the cut the stylist, also one of the salon’s co-​owners, was friendly and engaging. He just seemed a thoroughly nice guy who was genuinely interested in what you were talking about, rather than a vinegar-​faced junior stylist more interested in whinging to the other staff than trying to put you at ease. The cut was one of the best I have ever had, contemporary without looking or feeling faddy. After the cut I was told how best to maintain the style and recommended I use a hair-​clay like the one he had and although there are stacks of hair care products next to the till, at no stage was there a hard sell for any of these.
In terms of décor the place is a little spartan but I like its sincerity. From the battered leather couch to the simple full length mirrors everything in here is designed to be used. As a customer you never feel that you’re paying for the subtle lighting or the interesting prints on the wall and besides, the place exudes a relaxed atmosphere without having to resort to showy displays. The wash, cut and style costs a little over £20. Female friends who also use mufti report that they have been very happy with the cuts they have received there and have found them to be very competitively priced, with a wash, cut and dry coming in at just over £30. Student discount is also available on all cuts.
Unlike many other salons Mufti doesn’t offer coffee shop style stamp-​cards promising a free restyle on your tenth visit, instead it relies on friendly service, competitive pricing and high quality haircuts to ensure customer loyalty and as far as I’m concerned they have mine.

LIZ is the BEST hairdresser anyone could ask for! When I moved to Manchester and searched around for a good cheap place to get my hair done, I came across all the qype reviews about Liz and had to try her out. Let me tell you it was the best decision I have ever made! She is a gem and my hair always looks like a million bucks (or pounds… I’m from the US) when I walk out of there. It grows out amazing and I would never dream of going anywhere else… not to mention the price is so reasonable! 28.50 with a student discount :)
So if you’re looking for an amazing haircut, at an affordable price, with the nicest person ever… go to LIZ :)

Any bad reviews on here are complete b*cks and are clearly competitors trying to diminish their growing reputation. Get my haircut here every couple of months and they generally spend over an hour consulting, chatting, cutting and are happy to take your steer on the way you want it done rather than some slapper in Toni&Guy who thinks she knows best. Half the price of high street hairdressers, double the quality — good banter, crap jokes, top tunes and no pushy sales sh! t. Top haircut too, cleraly understand current trends and styles. No basins. Would highly recommend this place. Top draw.

Really bad haircut!!!
I had a consultation a few days before hand and they were excellent — really listened. Then I went in for my haircut. A different person cut my hair. Although everyone was lovely this is one of the most disappointing haircuts I have had.
Would not reccommend.

Went on my boyfriend’s recommendation, was very impressed. I paid about £25 for my haircut, being a girl, and I got student discount too, which was great to hear!
The salon was really friendly and great and had a really nice, relaxed atmosphere. The guys there were very talkative, and made it far less boring to have my hair done. The best part was the care my stylist took over my hair: he may have taken longer than a generic stylist at Hair Cuttery UK, but the cut was better and the service felt more personal and relaxed.

Recently went for the first time after discovering it on this site. Had some good banter with the guy which makes a change from most other salons and they haircut itself was really good. If you’re tired of rude, rushed and impersonal service definitely give these guys a try.

The guys at Muffti are great and their hair cutting isn’t bad either! I was recommended by a friend and now there are a few of us who always go there. Great friendly service, fantastic cuts and good advice about colours. I hate choosing a hairdresser as I am afraid what could happen and find most of them pretentious and doing what they want instead of what you would like. I would highly recommend these guys, reasonably priced and great location for those living or working in town.

The guys that run this salon are fantastic, in fact they are just about the only people in Manchester that I would trust to let loose on my hair! I’ve had my hair cut by them since before they set up Mufti, and they’ve done a really great job in establishing it as a high quality, good value hairdressers.
I can’t speak for the girls, but for a gents cut (and wash) expect to pay around £16−20. What is particularly welcome is that they will spend a good 45 minutes on the cut, ensuring it’s just what you asked for. Compared to some other establishments that attempt to get guys in and out the door in around 20 minutes this comes as a welcome change.
For excellent quality and value I can’t recommend this place highly enough.
