Philpotts is a small chain of sandwich shops in the UK, with 4 stores Manchester and Birmingham, they even have stores in Leeds, Liverpool and Edinburgh, so they are basically up and down the country now with 21 stores, from Bristol to Edinburgh. I was already aware of the Philpotts brand having seen their stores in both Manchester and Leeds before, even trying out their branch in Manchester — Piccadly Plaza, there shown a average /good standard and even had gluten free bread, but that was in March 2015, while looking for something to eat in Manchester, I wanted to see what other stores were like, and if they maintained the same good standards, but sadly I was disappointing here, infact as disappointed as I was the previous day with the Manchester City — Tottenham game, and the past 3 home games to say the least(but don’t get me started on that) This is quite a nice looking store on the inside, and is up a few steps. I asked them about the lift, as I have previously it just to be filled with unused chairs, as it been like this for a few months, I wanted to know why, and like Political Correspondent Nick Robinson, I questioned them, and they gave a pathetic excuse, that it had never worked and they were far from sympathetic, and didn’t seem to care they are lowering their clientel, and putting off the eldery those with wheelchairs and prams from visiting here. I hoped the experience could be a little better, with the food, I asked them regarding the gluten free selection, it was relatively busy and they was no staff to answer quick questions to or even dotting around without queuing, they simply told me they had sold out, which considering gluten free bread probably won’t be really popular, this is a poor excuse for simply not stocking it due to the time of 2pm, they could of at least made effort to go to the nearby supermarket to stock up, as they only use that anyway. I wanted to like Philpotts today and have a good experience here, but I was unable to do that, and it seemed they had nothing working for them. I do not understand why they do not bother to fix the lift, or even care about fixing the lift, they must have paid to install it, so why not get it working? The gluten free selection was also, near enough as ridiculous. Due to ridiculous situations here, regarding the management and stock of this store, I would say it is really not worth a visit if you do struggle with steps or have allergies, sadly meaning it deserves a single one star, as they simply don’t seem to show care towards customers and striving towards being the best they can be.

I think the Unilocalers have hit the nail on the head here. Its too expensive, that cant be denied, but you’ve probably got to just about give it the three stars, because the food is without doubt of a high quality. Its the soups i personally love the most. If you have a chicken soup, for example, it’ll actually have plenty of pieces of chicken in it. This may sound a minimum requirement, but i think a little investigation would show that Philpotts is actually in the minority of soup sellers in meeting these standards. I agree that pretending that a quid for two pieces of toast is bargainous is a joke. Thats exactly the price of one loaf of bread, which will provide breakfast for a week or more, for a family. However, that deal does epitomise what Philpotts is all about: those with a few quid too many. If buying toast at a 1000% mark up so you don’t have to toast your own is a luxury you can afford, then why not do it!

Philpotts is a posh sandwich shop that sells made to order sandwiches(hot and cold), salads, jacket potatoes, and soup. It also does breakfasts such a s toast, porridge and bacon sandwiches etc. It markets itself as a healthy«posh-nosh» sandwich bar, aimed at professionals on their lunch breaks(it is invariably shut by 3pm). There is no doubt that the food it serves is fresh and high quality. I like that you have a range of breads to choose from. You can have you bog standard sliced white or a more adventurous seeded French baguette. The fillings for the sandwiches are imaginative, and the staff polite. I will happily hold my hand on my heart and say that I have never had a bad sandwich from here. However, it is the price that I have issues with. £4 for a jacket potato with tuna mayo and a bit of cheese is clearly daylight robbery! Equally, they flog 2 slices of toast for £1 as a bargain. But you can’t fool me Philpotts, I know how much bread costs! Mr Philpott, wherever he is, must be making an absolute killing. I have not been back to Philpotts since the incident of the robbery and do not intend too. I recommend it if you want an especially tasty sandwich, but do be aware that you may have to re-mortgage your house to be able to afford one.

How about some good breakfast with some tasty crisp bacon, toast and eggs? or what about a lunch with endless classic sandwich choices? Philpotts is your one stop sandwich destination and it never fail you in that department. There is never a bad sandwich here and it is aimed at all promising themselves the healthy and leafy diet. So if you’re the one who likes to watch you eat, Philpotts would be perfect for you. But the drawback comes from the point that of course there are endless sandwich options in this city, making Philpotts not so much of a choice for me. So we can wrap up by saying that Philpotts loyalists will always make their way for lunch here, no matter what opens next to it.

Philpotts is a posh subway. If you like sandwiches and you work in town, you have to go to this place, lunchtimes will never be the same again! Here’s an example of this Mondays specials: lemon peppered chicken with roast tomatoes & peppers in delicious garlic mayonnaise(£3.30) and spicy cheese savoury with peppers, jalepenos & tortillas chips(£2.80). That’s just Monday! They also sell freshly carved roast meat sandwiches(the gammon one is amazing), gormet soups, cakes and a wide range of hot drinks too(really good coffee!). It is quite a snobby place and it is a little expensive but it’s very nice and sometimes you just want to indulge at lunchtime. Closes at 3pm though so don’t leave it too late!
