Pitchers and Pianos don’t mix! What if something spills? No one likes sticky keys . Here they do. Well, there might not be a piano to speak of, but from the previous review you can see that Alfie is a man after my own heart — a caiprinha lover. I too tried the delicious nectar here and was left far from disappointed. And while Pitcher and Piano is a chain, it’s a darn good one. It’s rare as a vegequarian that I have so much choice on a menu. Well, I could go for the butternut squash and chickpea salad(bliss, I assure you), a smoked mackerel one, a Portobello burger, fishcakes, a Ploughman’s baguette, fish finger sandwich, sundried tomato risotto, mushroom and tarragon pasta… the list goes on, and for the carnivores there’s even more including steak, pie, sandwiches, burgers… The central location and pretty décor makes it a great spot to unwind after a hard day in the city. Pitch up and pull up a pew. Just don’t expect a piano… perhaps a few tinklings on the sound system but that’s about it.

This Pitcher & Piano deserves a mention for me. Situated right in the centre of town near Manchester Central Library and St Peter’s Square, I popped in with my girlfriend for a cocktail the other night, assuming that I would have to pay over the odds for the privalege of sitting in a chic chain bar in a city centre. I was delighted then, when I discovered that not only were the cocktails very well prices, at just over a fiver each, but that they were also two for the price of one. They weren’t your classic cheap excuse for a cocktail either, as they were excellently prepared with plenty of care and alcohol. I had a Caiprinha and the lass had a Mojito, both of which were excellent. Be sure to specify with the Caiprinha whether you want it on crushed or blocks of ice, as its quite a different taste even though both are nice. Good décor as well with a huge amount of large nicely arranged tables meaning that it can be busy and spacious at the same time. Excellent place for a pre-meal drink and a chat.
