The Gallery at Thomas St specializes in Limited Edition Screen Printed Gig Poster art, great music posters exclusively at the gallery signed and numbered by the artists, from classic vintage Psychedelia to this weeks shows.

There is a large selection of affordable contemporary art originals and prints from the Low Brow, Pop Art, Street and Contemporary Scenes. There is a larger selection of iconic images from contemporary culture.

These all combine and extend into the designer urban vinyl that is also shown in the gallery. A massive selection from the leading worldwide producers constantly updated and expanded.

For producers of custom vinyl we have a large range of blank figure and if you buy one from the gallery we will display and sell your custom creation in the gallery if you want it seen.

Most of all we are a gallery so come in and have a look at the work and the exhibitions. We change exhibitions each month and there is a constant rotating rock poster show always showing

History

Established in 2000.

Opened in 2000 the gallery started as a contemporary photography gallery with the aim of taking the old stuffy gallery attitude and updating it for the new millennium.

We quickly expanded from just photography to also rock poster art and have continued that trend with new areas of contemporary art and urban vinyl.

In 2007 our second location opened in Manchester on 103 High Street focused on contemporary art and photography, with the Thomas Street location exclusively focused on Afffordable Art, Rock Poster Art and Vinyl.

Everything we do is accessible and open to everyone.

We have had exhibitions by Anton Corbijn, Gered Mankowitz, Graham Nash, Ray Caesar, Ron Jobb, Emek, Rob Jones, Leia Bell, Tara McPherson, Kidrobot, Lunartic, Jay Ryan, Leonard Cohen, Central Station and Terry O’Neill to name a few.

We show the Art of Leonard Cohen, and created the first fine art Lenticular photographs

Not a current review, but possibly worth telling…
A few years ago I was working in Manchester during the week and noticed that Graham Nash (Blackpool born, Salford grown, ex Hollies, Crosby, Stills and Nash, on in Manchester in May) was launching his «Eye to Eye» photography collection with an exhibition. There was also to be a book signing during the week, and I and a couple of friends decided to make plans to attend the signing.
Walking past the gallery the day before the exhibition was due to start, I noticed the staff hard at work putting pictures up and putting postcards into envelopes. As the gallery was open I wandered in and asked «can I please have one of those?» pointing at the postcards. «Sure», said what turned out to be Richard Goodall.
I wandered back to work and looked at my prize to find it was an invitation to the opening event. Mortified by my cheek (what must they think of me?) I slipped away from work in the late afternoon to return the invitation with an apology for picking it up. The response I got was a stifled laugh and «No problem… and bring your friends too.»
So we spent an evening in the company of Richard Goodall, Graham Nash, Allan Clarke, Tony Wilson and the guys who set up the Manchester District Music Archive. I even got to be Graham Nash’s photographer, and his top tip to me was «Probably best if you remove the lens cap».

What an excellent find. I’m certain the Richard Goodall Gallery is closed more often than it’s open, so when we saw people heading in we couldn’t resist following!
Located on Thomas Street, you’d be forgiven for almost not even noticing it there; the restaurants and bars catch your eye and then you’re on a different path in your day. However, I’d fully recommend resisting those temptations for a moment and stepping in to this pop culture wonderland.
The gallery itself is split across two floors, with large posters and prints at the rear, and some gift items as you walk in. There’s currently a huge sale on with some prints at as little as £10 — though the Bruce Springsteen ones I was eyeing up remained at £75 each. Great taste.
If you’re looking for a gift for a music, film or TV lover and need something unique, this is the place to go. They also give you the option to have prints framed, usually costing around £30 more than the print unframed, though this did differ across the store.
I’m looking forward to returning next time I need a present — for someone else or myself!

I’d only ever bought stuff from here online, and with this and the emails of the exhibitions on at the gallery I’d painted a picture in my head of what the physical shop would look like. Luckily, it easily matches those expectations.
The great thing about this is that you can use the website as a try before you buy facility. Mainly focusing on screen printed gig posters, principally from the US, you can have a look and see what they have from a band you love, or from a particular artist Pop in, and the shop lets you have a proper look at all of the prints. It’s a pretty relaxed environment, and it lets you spend a fair amount of time looking through the racks and walls and see something you fancy.
The art is pretty pop culture lead, so if that’s not your style then it may not be for you. If it’s your thing then there is loads to choose from. Prices range from very affordable to slightly less so, and if you fall for one of their features artists (Jay Ryan for me) then there is a wealth of things for you to pick from.
For a music daft city like Manchester this is a perfect fit, and is well worth a look, online and definitely in person.

I was in awe of the Richard Goodall Gallery on Thomas Street in the trendy Northern Quarter of Manchester. They have the most amazing style of posters that i have seen.
They have everything from retro movie and music posters to contemporary art and sculptures.
Even if you’re not planning on buying anything its just a cool place to browse these super cool posters. Most of the posters was around £40 to £85 in a frame. I especially loved the back to the future poster!

Walking in the northern Quarter can be quite surprising ! Entered here and discovered a colorful world both modern and colorful. The place is calm, people don’t follow you in the gallery to check that you don’t steal/break anything, It is pleasant to be here but nothing more: reading other comments, I was expecting something new or different but apart from some local posters, I did not spend hours in the place contemplating at peace of arts ! ;)

Nestled on Thomas Street this art print shop specialises in beautiful limited edition rock art posters for hip indie types like Sufjan Stevens, The National and Modest Mouse by acclaimed designers including Leia Bell, Daniel Danger and Jay Ryan (whose artwork adorned the cover of Gods and Monsters the third album by Manchester cult favourites I Am Kloot). There are also fantastic prints by store favourite Niagara, with pop art style fifties pin-up girls spouting film noir inflected dialogue («If I want your opinion I’ll beat it out of you.») Prices for the larger prints range from £25 to £300 but for the more cash-strapped there are cards for under £3 and a rummage box of smaller prints running to £5 each (when I was last at the gallery there were some great two tone posters for last years In The City music festival). The staff here are passionate and knowledgeable about the artwork on display, welcome questions and encourage browsing. Be sure to check out the brilliant new selection of alternate movie posters at the rear of the first floor including a grindhouse style take on Schwarzenegger’s finest hour and a half, Total Recall, titled Kuato Lives!

This is an awesome art gallery. It’s contemporary, cool and spacious, but full of pieces that catch your attention and make you look a little closer.
After being buzzed through the door (a nice touch) and being met with the sound of David Bowie on the stereo, I discovered that the screen prints covering the walls are incredible. They’re for past shows from ultra-cool indie bands like Mates of State and The Shins. Look a bit closer and you’ll find one or two for Flight of the Conchords too. A very tasteful artists impression of Bret and Germaine could be on your wall if you want. I guess the only drawback is that they’ll set you back a fair few quid, but the prints really are worth it if you have the money.
It’s not all show posters though, and you’ll find work from contemporary artists from both the UK and abroad. If you’re desperate to buy something but only have a few spends in your pocket, why not buy one of the cool original figurines that sit in several display cases around the gallery?

If you are in the Northern Quarter, love music and art. then you should head here! Upstairs there is a huge selection of prints both large and small to pour over, there are more downstairs along with a large collection of modern, contemporary art! There should be something that would suit most wall space at home, and with such affordable prices… you may feel like buying a few!

The Richard Goodall Gallery is a music lover’s dream.
Spread over two floors, it’s an awesome, contemporary art gallery that specialises in limited edition music posters, giclee and screen prints and photos. The front room houses an exhibition space — where Kevin Cummins, Ronnie Wood and Leonard Cohen have all exhibited work! — and the backroom and basement is stocked with thousands of prints in browsers and wall frames. Artists include Tara McPherson, Leia Bell, Jay Ryan, Emek, Print Mafia, Kendra Binney, Small Stakes, Aesthetic Apparatus, Frank Kozik and The White Stripes own designer, Rob Jones.

This is a fascinating and well-respected gallery in Manchester showcasing up and coming as well as established artists with everything from pop art, fine art and sculpture. However, its photography exhibitions on famous musicians and the celebrated Leonard Cohen exhibition has raised its profile even more than before. The art is affordable and always captivating, there’s great prints and silk-screen posters for sale and an off-the-wall gift collection including gig t-shirts, books and Japanese gifts.

The Richard Goodall Gallery is an art gallery exhibiting new and emerging artists but is known for their photography exhibitions of famous musicians. The gallery is one of the most respected in Manchester and is a good place for new artists to show their work. Down stairs they hand print posters advertising bands/and concerts that are designed with a graphic comic book style. The staff are friendly and there is always something for all price ranges.
