Description

Specialties

Having always had our eye on quality we have, in the last two years, been actively seeking and commissioning beers locally.

In 2008 we commissioned the Phoenix Pilsner, from the Phoenix Brewery in Haywood, North Manchester. Our aim was to create a quality beer brewed locally and in doing so we hoped to reduce some of the mileage many of the beers we drink are transported.

Since the launch of Phoenix Pilsner, we have found a beautiful and skilfully crafted pilsner from Bury and we have commissioned three more beers from local breweries; the Phoenix Strawberry, the O. S 4.1 and the Outstanding Stout. This helps the environment, it supports local business and the reduces the cost of.

Light and refreshing the Phoenix Pilsner is actually brewed with a top fermenting ale yeast and matured at lower temperatures like a lager in the style of the Kolsch beers from Cologne. This gives it the crisp cleanness of a lager but it is softer with less bitterness.

History

Established in 1996.

We pride ourselves on our range of unique and distinctive beers, both local and foreign. Through Sandbar German Beer Ltd we have been importing from Germany since we opened and both the bottled and draught German beers are the genuine articles brewed on the continent rather than under licence in the UK.

The wall space in Sandbar is available to local artists, exhibiting their photography, painting, printing, collages and short films. We welcome proposals from artists for future exhibitions.

We are also committed to reducing our carbon footprint. We do not weave our own yoghurt but we do recycle all our paper, cardboard and glass, we have biodegradable straws, and all our electricity comes from Good Energy– www.goodenergy.co.uk, which is a 100% renewable energy supplier.
