Some nice sandwiches. Friendly staff. Their mega breakfast is marvellous when suffering from a hangover. The only draw back really is the 50p charge to pay by card. Other than that a nice sandwich place.

I had a temp job at the Fielden Campus of City College which is(was, before they decided to knock it down) just opposite this sandwich bar, making it a favourite among my co-workers. As I was on a meagre wage I only made use of it on a couple of occasions, like when my bread was mouldy or when I woke up too late to even dress myself properly, let alone make a sandwich. I remember having a roasted veg and humous sandwich which was quite tasty and set me back about £2.50. I always took my sarnies back to work with me, but there are a few seats in there too. I was never quite sure why my colleagues gave the place such rave reviews. Probably because it was the closest shop and the different fillings on offer provided stimulating conversation and provoked discussion that everybody could join in with whilst the most mundane of admin tasks were carried out. If you’re nearby and fancy a sandwich, baguette, wrap, panini or any other variation on the trusted sarnie that you can think of, then I’d recommend Sansou.

Sansou is housed in a lovely tudor(or mock-tudor?) building between East and West Didsbury. There’s a nice vibe about this place. The staff are friendly, the mood is laid back and the food is hearty and well portioned. Soups, salads, baguettes and fresh smoothies and juices are what you should expect. Sansou’s latest venture is the ‘Meal Deal’, following in the steps of boots and the supermarket chains. For £4 you’ll get a baguette with your choice of filling, a packet of crisps and a soft drink. Not at all bad, and proving popular with the locals, who take their lunch and sit in the window to watch the world go by. One thing I will say though, is that the opening times are limited to 4pm weekdays, 1pm Saturday and not open at all Sunday, so don’t come here for Sunday brunch!
