Shudehill Interchange

With my visit in and out of Manchester today and being a regular to this bus station in recent years, I thought it would be appropriate to update my review so it is more detailed and although it is a large bus station and metrolink with trams and buses to many places, I do not like the cleanliness in the bus station, despite being recently built I do feel it lacks being modern with the seating, floor and colour scheme in general.
They is a nice newsagents in the bus station where you can get lottery tickets, snacks, drinks and all other things you would expect from a bus station shop.
Megabus goes from this station so if you plan to go from Manchester to London with the company, you will probably travel from here or the Manchester Coach Station, If I am right National Express used to run buses from here but they moved to Manchester’s Chorlton Street Coach Station.
Overall, due to all things mentioned with the cleanliness and it not being modern inside I have to rate 2 stars, I also find it unhygienic that they is people smoking right outside the door most of the time and I am upset that to catch one of the bus that I need, I have to go to a stop further down the road.

I was wondering if I can get some advice. I am getting the bus to Shudehill Interchange and then travelling to Manchester Airport. Could people help me with how far away it is, best transport and rough costs? I have never been to Manchester so I do not know my way around. I have 45 minutes from getting off the bus to get to the airport. Is that enough time? Thanks to anyone who helps me out. Lauren

No doubt I’ll come to experience Shudehill more, should I one day get a real house and have sproglets and live out in the Manc ‘burbs proper (I’m talking like, beyond Chorlton and Didsbury)… but for now, I use it for one thing and one thing only. If I’m in the Northern Quarter and I want to get to Spinningfields quickly, whether it be to grab my filter coffee and free wifi at Pret or smooch my beloved when he finishes work (these things tend to coincide), I’ll hop over to Stand J and get the green Metroshuttle 2 bus. It gives me time to relax, read my Kindle, catch up with some work on my phone rather than rushing across town like a woman possessed.
But that’s it, really. While Shudehill has a good Metrolink stop I very rarely use the trams and the Stagecoach buses for which I have a pass don’t live here. And you have to be careful. Sometimes you won’t see the Metroshuttle, sometimes it’ll be hiding behind another bus and woe betide you if you run after it and try and get on a little after at the traffic lights, the driver will make you feel like something he’s just stepped in. I’ve experienced this both ends, being the one in the pouring rain knocking on the door and being sat on the bus watching it happen to someone else. It’s brutal.
My mum often gets the Terravision from Liverpool Airport to come and meet me in Manchester and always remarks about how austere, cold and creepy Shudehill could be sometimes. To be honest it’s not somewhere I’d want to spend a great deal of time, but they’ve made an effort with it and when it comes to catching that Metroshuttle 2 I can’t fault it. It actually seems to arrive on time there, and I’m in the business district in the blink of an eye. So yes, a necessity, and fairly clean, but not exactly welcoming. Still, like I said, I’ll update if I happen to wind up using it more often!

Ahhh, Shudehill Interchange — you glittering palace of delights. No longer just a place to catch the free bus into town, or the Megabus to London, this is a gateway — a Mecca even — of the North West transportation world. New and gleaming, you can get buses and trams here — and I’ve heard from an anonymous source that there’s a plan to install a helicopter landing pad.
Come here, and prepare to be dazzled.

I’ve been using Shudehill for many years, and I must agree with everyone who finds it convenient and easy to use. There is a ticket office, a small shop, and even a café. Buses to remote UK destinations often depart from here, rather than Central Coach Station in Cholrton St. No. 2 metro shuttle bus departs from stand L, connecting Shudehill with Castlefield, and trams also stop at Shudehill, creating a lively interchange (sic) of commuters.

Shudehill Interchange is one of Manchester’s transport hubs that is far less scummy than Victoria station and much less stressful than the bustling Piccadilly Station.
You can catch the metro from Shudehill either as well as many local buses. It’s also the Manchester stop for Megabuses which I love because the bus station is only five minutes away from my flat. Mega useful.
Inside the bus station is a newsagents which sells confectionary and crisps and stuff for your journey, and generally the station is clean, light and well maintained. There’s a few seats if you’ve got a long wait too.
Ooh, also dead useful is that there is a cash machine just outside the main entrance. Dead handy if you’re over in Trof or tv21 and need some more cash quickly.

Albert Einstein once said: «All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man’s life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual towards freedom.»
The same could be said of Shudehill Interchange.
I mean, right in the heart of Manchester City Centre is a monument to the apex of mankind’s possibilities.
There, amongst the sprawling mess of the metropolis is a beautiful oblong of steel and glass. Inside is a newspaper shop where you can buy ‘products’.
There’s also a system of ‘stands’ detailing the whereabouts of various buses which arrive at the interchange and depart to all the corners of Britain via Megabus coaches and local buses.
Passengers have been seen weeping when they alight there, unwilling to leave such a towering monument to the brilliance of man.
Apparently, this is built on the site of where local militia would spike heads on poles.
This is the true angel of the North.

A useful public transport interchange. It’s situated very conveniently for a number of destinations — notably URBIS and the Arndale Centre. It combines a bus station with a tram stop, and indeed Victoria Railway station is not far away so it is actually getting dangerously close to being part of what might be described as an integrated transport system. (Don’t worry, though, it will never catch on). The whole place has a clean, modern feel to it and the signage seems to be good. All in all, a useful public facility.

This bus station caters for a lot of bus services going from Manchester towards the north. There are regular services to places like Middleton and Rochdale and take between 30 minutes and an hour depending on the time of day you set off at. The First Group has a lot of buses that come from here, and a typical day bus pass costs about £4. Which is quite reasonable as you can use it all day. The interchange is very modern and is a lot nicer than a lot of bus stations around Manchester. There are also cafes and newsagents in the station, which is good for those people waiting around for thier buses.

This the new (ish) bus station in the City Centre, it replaces the Old Canon Street station which was knocked down a few years ago. From here you will get buses towards Bury, Eccles, Bolton, Rochdale, Simister and Middleton. It is a nice modern building and there are nice waiting areas which are usually clean and tidy. There is a convenience store, ATM, information desk, toilets and news stand located inside. The Bus Station also links to the Metrolink Tram service outside.
