Went to grill on the alley for yet another really good meal! It was my boyfriends birthday and he wanted us to go here I’ve been plenty of times before but last night was definitely the best! We had a sharing plate for started which consisted of chicken in honey sauce, salt and pepper calamari, bbq ribs and sweet potato wedges then for main I had the salt and pepper crispy fajitas and other half had the wagyu steak it was all so delicious! The staff were lovely as I told them it was his birthday and they told me they’d put a candle in his desert, what were the chances he’d order cheese board! But they didn’t disappoint there was a candle on it and they made a separate plate saying happy birthday. Was a lovely night in here such a good atmosphere and lovely food!

Have been here a few times now but last nights had to be my favourite(possibly had something to do with me not paying for it as it was my birthday) but anyway. Starter we got a sharing plate, ribs, calamari, sweet potato and chicken skewers. Wasn’t too much of a fan of the chicken but the rest was really good! Main I went for the wagyu cooked blue, mash and peppercorn sauce. Really really good, cooked perfectly as always. The staff were also really nice, very friendly with us. Really nice meal and will return again as never disappoints.

Visited here on Friday, the atmosphere was nice, the food was lovely and had a really good evening with some nice wine. I do prefer the grill on New York street, the layout is better in my opinion.

I’m struggling to find a reason to not give Grill On The Alley to full works and award 5 stars, because everything really was excellent — even if they didn’t think so(more on that later). It was Brad S’s birthday last week and it was time to get the lads together and celebrate with a steak dinner! We debated a few options; Guacho, Fazenda being two of the names thrown in the hat but I suggested GOTA due to the wider options on the menu — it proved to be a great suggestion if I do say so myself! I booked in on Friday for a table on Saturday night, pretty last minute for a party of 7, yet they said they could accommodate us and they did! We started with a drink in the bar as we were a little early for our 9pm booking, some of the group had Korev beers while me and the birthday boy Brad S had a lovely bottle of Red — a Californian Old Vine Zinfandel I believe — Delicato was it’s name! There was time for just one relaxing class while we caught up before heading down stairs to our table — perfectly positioned in the middle of the room to capture the whole atmosphere! We skipped starters and went with some breads to share before our steaks arrived — most went for Rib-Eye or Rump accompanied with house chips and there wasn’t an scrap of food left on any plate! Now the best bit, they obviously really really care about their customer service because while we were waiting for our bill, the manager came over and advised us he would be giving us 20% for the slow service — slow service that none of us really noticed nor minded as it was a delay of 10 minutes from a normal time frame and considering there were 7 of us — we really thought nothing of the wait. So having the delight of a 20% deduction in price was the icing on the cake for a fantastic evening. Brilliant food, a fantastic atmosphere with live pianist and outstanding service!

Having been a couple of times to this restaurant, I would say it is very good but not quite excellent. The steaks are reasonably priced and I would certainly recommend getting one of them, although my friend got the fajitas and they looked very good as well. The food is of a very good standard. The main reason that I have given this four stars and not five is because they don’t have draught beers, which for me is disappointing. They did have a nice Cornish lager which was bottled, however by the end of the night they had sold out of them which was also annoying. That being said, I will be going back there at some point for another steak!

This place was excellent, but not without one or two small issues. On arrival(8.30pm on a busy Saturday evening) we were greeted with two reserved tables in the lobby area of the restaurant, then promptly served and given sounds advice on a range of drinks from the menu. At 9.00pm we were seated at our table(at the exact time we booked for) and promptly provided with menus and advice on the best options. From here until the process of ordering, service seemed extremely slow. We finally got ordered at around 9.30pm and food arrived around 25 – 30 minutes later(table of 7), which was very reasonable. No one had any problems with their food order, I had the fillet steak fajitas which were absolutely fantastic. The good: — The food — The staff — The setting and overall vibe The not so good: — Slow service(but this was prime time and to compensate we were given 20% off the bill — excellent touch) — No jugs left for water — Men’s toilets out of order for the majority of the time Overall, I was very happy with the restaurant and I’d definitely recommend it. I’ll be back that’s for sure!

I had a 20% off food voucher which I received at a Unilocal Event at The Grill on the Alley a couple months ago and finally got to use it :) After a busy tiring day watching football ;) we needed some food. If you know me you know I love my steak so The Grill on the Alley was the perfect place. I had never been there for steak but had been to one of there sister restaurants Grill on NY Street a couple times and always had a good steak. I usually go for the rib eye which came in 2 sizes. One 8oz and another I think 10oz. Since it was 20% off I went for the larger one :) As usual I asked for it medium-rare — so its still pink and juicy — and it was perfectly cooked. In an ideal world maybe the steak would have had more marbling generally throughout. It was fairly lean but there was a «chunk» of meat. Normally I would have eaten it anyway — fat equals flavour! But decided to be good/healthy. My cousin had the same but the smaller rib eye(still cooked medium rare) — his steak was pretty rare though. Luckily he was OK with it like. We were sat upstairs which was busy — didn’t spot any spare tables. It was a Sunday evening and all the other restaurants we walked passed were all very quiet. So maybe because it was so busy and how there is an open kitchen, but it was a very warm seating area. Not sure if its normally like this? Maybe they need to turn up the air con a bit.

Really excellent venue. There was a wait time of around 1 hour to get a table, it’s worth every minute. The wait in reality was around 30. The speciality steak was excellently cooked and complimented nicely with a side of veg and baked potato. The starter of pickled salmon was absolutely gorgeous and left me wanting more. Finally, the cocktails, WOW. The smokey old fashioned was so good, I had three! Overall fantastic service, great food, great drinks and a great price!

I guess o should probably branch out, but if I’m looking for a good steak I always come to one of the grills and I’m never disappointed. Again a trip here with my folks for a pretend birthday meal which was completely perfect. For starters we had the gin cured salmon and the mackerel — both of which were delicious, then it was steaks all round. T-bone for me with prawns, scallops and crayfish, rumps for the folks. My mum had somewhat of a culinary epiphany realises that after years of having well done steak is like old boot and wanted to swap with dad for his medium steak. Then we decided we just had to have some desserts — affogato and scotch for me, and pavlova for my mum along with their Turkish delight liquid dessert which was amazing. I noticed some black specks in my scotch, pointed it out to a waiter and a fresh one was brought straight over. All in, great service, lovely food, wonderful company and nice atmosphere.

I’ve been to Grill on the Alley a good few times in the past and find it to be an excellent steak restaurant. The bar area is lovely and a great place to have a quick drink whilst you wait for your table, or even just pop in for a drink. Although it’s usually full of diners, the ambiance in the bar is great and I’d be more than happy to stay for a few drinks here. The bar is excellently stocked with a great range of beers and spirits. One place that served my Portobello Road Gin and Tonic correctly(with a twist of pink grapefruit) which so many Manchester bars seem to get wrong. The menu is vast and the steaks you can choose from are all the best quality beef. Opting for the rock oysters for a starter I thoroughly enjoyed them and the chateaubriand for 2 was excellently cooked medium rare and served with King Prawns. A lovely touch! The sticky toffee pudding was also delightful. Excellent service and an excellent restaurant.

We 1st came to The Grill on the allley when we attended the Unilocal event Bloody Mary Masterclass. We received some vouchers to come back, So we decided on the Sunday Lunch. which was Amazing beef melted in your mouth. Lovely fresh vegetables. Also we had 241 Cocktails which was delightful. Could be a little expensive without the 20% off food & the 241 cocktail voucher. But if you want a treat and a lovely place for Sunday lunch do not hesitate.

We was invited to attend an event at the grill on the alley where we sampled the Sunday roast and the bloody Mary. It was a fantastic afternoon with the Unilocal crew. We were given some vouchers so we took full advantage of this and returned. We had a delicious road beef Sunday lunch and a couple of cocktails. Fab service food gorgeous and tastey cocktails. Love this bar.

What else should you have on your birthday, but steak? With New York Street full, I was very happy that myself and a mate managed to get a reservation on an early Saturday evening at Grill On The Alley. Even happier that we’d be getting 50% off essentially as one main course would be free. We both had sirloin steak. Rare. This comes with fries, and I picked roasted mushrooms as a side, with pepper sauce an extra too. Whilst waiting for my mate at the bar, I got a bottle of ale. Whilst it was championship winning, both myself and the bar tender were surprised it was £5. The setting is contemporary and modern, and there’s no loud music. Service is pretty good, though some overlap between our two servers. An enjoyable meal, at a great price — £20 each, for a good occasion. Will return.

My friend and I ordered from the lunch menu, which is £15 for 2 courses or £20 for 3. We also had a couple of glasses of prosecco for £5.50 a glass. I ordered the prawn and avocado salad for my starter(this was a substitution since the other starters contained allergens I can’t eat) and my friend had salt and pepper calamari with saffron mayonnaise. I have to say, I had food envy but still enjoyed my starter — I love avocado. We both ordered Steak Frites(pan-fried sirloin with home cut chips) and had it pink. The steak was well seasoned, tasty and soft, and the chips were cooked with the skin on and didn’t need any additional seasoning. For dessert we had champagne sorbet. I can’t often have a dessert so was very excited and it didn’t disappoint. It was fragrant and refreshing, a perfect end to a delicious lunch.

Fantastic sunday lunch here today. I chose the beef and it was really tender and melted in your mouth. Yorkshire puddings crispy just how i like them. Was accompanied by roast potatoes, cabbage, carrot and sweet. Was great how everything was set out. The beef, gravy and Yorkshire pudding was set out on the plate and the veg was in to small dishes. I liked them both so put everything on my plate but if you didn’t like somethings then you can leave them to one side. I also had a berry, apple and vodka cocktail Well recommended.

After a great Unilocal event at Grill on the Alley it was high time I returned to try their evening menu. We opted to have a drink in the bar first before eating — I had the passionfruit sling which was a nice fizzy fruity number! After having a quick catch up we were taken downstairs to a nice booth. The seats were comfy but it was surprisingly hot down here which wasn’t the best. I opted to share a starter with a friend; mussels in a white wine sauce. They were tasty and served with some crispy bruschetta. I was disappointed at the lack of soft bread to mop the sauce up but we did get some spoons — yum! We pretty much all ordered the steak sandwich — which was very reasonable in comparison to the rest of the menu. It came served in a large crusty ciabatta with melted cheese top. On the side was a generous pot of gravy(with extra oozed over the steak) and a pot of fries. The steak sandwich was tasty and very different to what we all expected and have had previously! The menu is slightly on the pricy side however I would be swayed to return for the wagu steak… for a very special occasion at £55 a pop!

Great food, drinks & atmosphere. It is an expensive place to eat but worth it. Impeccable service and friendly staff. Good selection of wines, try the Rioja gorgeous! Funky décor looks like it should be in the Northern Quarter, couldn’t recommend this place enough. Best to go for a treat :)

I love the Grill on the Alley and can’t believe I haven’t reviewed it before. I’ve visited here a number of times over the years and had so many different things off the menu. Over recent months, I’ve become a bit of a regular since Katie(the BDM) moved over from New York Street. My most ordered meal is the Sticky Beef Salad. There is a smaller portion, which is ideal for lunch or those with smaller appetites. I usually go for the larger portion, even at lunch time, and it fills me nicely so I don’t have to snack during the afternoon. The beef is really good, the salad is healthy, the noodles crispy and the sauce pulls it all together nicely. Almost without fail, I go for the Malbec as it is really tasty and so drinkable. Even when I go at lunchtimes! This is a favourite when booking a table for my boss for client lunches as the overall experience of food and service is great. I have also reserved an area in the bar for team drinks, so that is one to bear in mind. They do a good range of non-alcoholic cocktails so the drivers can have something more exciting than an orange juice. Overall, a really good place and I really recommend it.

Question 1: Do you like steak? If you answered yes, then you’ve got to check this place out!!! Had the large ribeye, which was cooked to perfection and great quality of meat! We also shared a foie gras starter which was delicious! Service itself was very efficient and they had a nice choice of drinks! Being a major pudding-lover, the only thing that let me down was the dessert menu… but with steak that good they still deserve 5stars in my eyes!

Trying to find somewhere to eat pre-theatre is often a tricky situation; who can you trust to get everything turned over in time, and how much do you really want to pay when you’ve only been sat down for a short period? The answer is — Grill on the Alley, and not this much. We booked online to take advantage of their 50% offer, and were warmly greeted, then taken downstairs to our table. We were talked through the specials menu and our drinks order taken, and food soon followed. Although we wanted to make the most of the 50%, we were also on a time deadline, so we decided to go just for mains. I had the rump steak with peppercorn sauce, chips and a side of green beans with garlic & shallots. Done medium-rare, the steak was perhaps slightly underdone for most people’s taste, and although it was tasty on the whole, the fat hadn’t rendered down quite so well, making it slightly chewier than I would like. The chips were good, and a healthy portion, and I very much enjoyed dipping them into the peppercorn sauce — though I’m sure that’s against every etiquette book out there. Green beans again were good, though a sad looking portion for circa £3.50. The other half’s chicken fajitas were nicely displayed, though they weren’t sizzling — as he’s had them before — so was left a bit disappointed. However, the rest of the meal seemed a success and no wrap was left uneaten. We were given a tablet to complete a feedback form whilst paying the bill, which was a nice touch as it’s always good to see restaurants embracing technology. On the whole, it was a good meal and a good experience. But would I go and pay full price? I highly doubt it.
