Tokyo Season

In fairness it was early on a Monday night, but for an empty restaurant, the serving took so long and tasted far from fresh. Sparkling water from a (bad) machine.
Fresh crab sushi was a nice starter. Chefs special tapinyaki plate was boring, nothing stood out or tasted like it should.
Also cc machine not working.

The food here is mediocre. They have discounted sushi but I wouldnt pay full price for the quality offered. The salmon was a strange colour. There are much better japanese restaurants around.

The foods pretty good and not too expensive but the service is really slow so don’t expect to get what you want fast or in order. It’s good for students who have times but for the ordinary working person they may want to go somewhere else if they have to get somewhere. Overall not bad and I would recommend the sharing platter or the pancake.

I’ve been here so many times in one week that I’ve exhausted the menu! The atmosphere is great. .there are even private quarters where you can slide some paper doors to segregate yourself off from the main dining area.
As for the food. they offer a very good cheap and cheerful sushi menu with high quality tuna sashimi. and some really good ramen dishes…
The plum wine (which we drank the restaurant dry on) is tasty but pricey starting from £22 a bottle. .but to be fair it probably costs them a lot just too import it. The sake is a cheaper option from half flasks from £5

I would recommend this place for someone who wants a change from cheap sushi places such as wasabi. oh and the sushi is half price if you pay by cash!

Not sure of Unilocal in the UK is not efficient or that I’m just having bad luck. First of all, after having the experienced this place, I re-​read all the reviews which were posted about this place (all of which has at least 5 stars) and it looked like the same person wrote all of them. With that being said, it’s not the worst sushi but definitely not worth 4 or 5 stars. For the price and ambiance, I would say its worth 3.0.

Yuzu is certainly the best Japanese restaurant in town. Unfortunately, they are expensive, their menu is very limited, and the atmosphere is not… convivial? I find myself taking three trips to Tokyo Season for every one trip to Yuzu, especially for lunch. Jpop music videos on the flat screen, half price sushi specials, and *piles* of good, honest Japanese food, executed well with no fuss. Every bite is wonderful and I’m never disappointed when I see the bill. Get the yakisoba, it’s satisfying and smoky, and more than big enough for two.

my first impression of the place is not very good. Staff not very friendly. Food below aveage and tasteless. Not even proper Soy sauce used for the Sushi. IF they can’t even put the proper SOY SAUCE that is a no no in my eyes. tut tut tut. Especially when the soy sauce which is in the original Kikkoman bottle does not contain the real stuffFALSE advertising.

Me and my boyfriend are on a constant hunt for the best Japanese restaurant we can find outside of Japan after visiting the islands last year. London has it’s fairly overpriced competition but the winner for now at least, is Tokyo Season.
The sushi menu is impressive, there’s lots of choice here so you won’t feel like you could have had the same thing in your Boots meal deal. The sushi is really good too! Warm rice and crispy seaweed, even the vegetarian ones never felt like they were lacking anything. Definitely a bargain.
The place is well kept, not intimidating but definitely neat and you don’t have to make the awkward compromise of sitting in a dank basement to enjoy good food. It’s light and airy, it was quiet when we went at lunch but I can imagine it would be more full in the evenings.
Appetisers were wonderful, fat and juicy gyoza, flavourful miso soup, pretty authentic ramen, even the drinks were good. No token nod to green tea but a full selection of teas and beers, even Calpis which was an instant winner.
Couldn’t have asked for more, the staff were polite and not intrusive. Service was quick without being rushed. Will definitely be back for more.

Well hello little hidden away joy of Japanese food delight!
Seriously, you wouldn’t really notice this place on Portland Street with every other restaurant competing with their own signs plastered all over the buildings next to their own.
As a big fan of sushi and Japanese food, I was so excited when my brother and his girlfriend suggested going here for my Mum’s birthday.
The venue is small but not quaint. It welcomes you with décor from a Japanese home; bamboo, wooden wall dividers (to seperate you from other guests if you wish!), lanterns and dark wooden beams and light painted walls. The tables and chairs are modern and chic and the waitress we had was dressed in a kimono!
The menu is multi-​lingual and the price of the sushi sharing platter is quite fair! Did I mention it’s also deliciously fresh with decorative wasabi and ginger? YUM!
We ordered this with some miso soup to start. Our waitress was new and when she brought over the soup to place it on the table, her tray slipped! If it wasn’t for my 63 year old Dad’s lightning bolt reflexes, he would have had a very scolded lap at this point! Even so, the waitress and manager could not have been more apologetic. We were given complementary side dishes and melon slices at the end of our meal alongwith taking off the 10% charge for having a table with more than 5 people. Their customer service is A* and they made sure we were happy with every course throughout our meal and the food was delicious and clearly fresh.
Looking forward to returning to this place!

I remember the first time I ever had sushi I was sure I would hate it, mostly because back then I was afraid of trying anything remotely new or out of the ordinary. Of course, I found that rather than vomiting it back up I enjoyed it immensely, and have done ever since.
Unfortunately, I rarely find myself eating it, which is why places like Tokyo Season are so good. With one of the biggest sushi menus I have ever come across, coupled with some of the best pricing for sushi I have ever come across, it’s a hard place to best. I’m not entirely sure how they charge so little considering the quality of it all, but it may be that every other sushi places charge you through the nose and hope you won’t notice. In that case, it’s even better for being honest.

Tokyo Season is the best quality and best value sushi restaurant in Manchester. It also does other delicious authentic Japanese dishes, but lets talk about sushi…
Their menu is extensive, with over 100 variations, and they also have a half price sushi menu, available anytime until 10pm. This consists of about 20 dishes, including some of the best sushi I have ever tasted. You need to have the salmon and tuna sushi, which is £1.60 for two pieces! Also good is the sweet shrimp and king prawn, for only £2. The salmon roe is more expensive, but still cheaper than anywhere else. The fish is the freshest possible and comes served on an authentic Japanese platter with a compartment for soy sauce, wasabi and ginger. You can afford to keep ordering, which is exactly what I do on every visit.
The restaurant is smart, and feels much posher than most of the places in the oriental area of Manchester, which it is on the border of. The prices though are unaffected as its one of the cheapest around. It’s a very professional place and would be suitable for anything from business lunches to parties. You will be served by very pretty waitresses in beautiful oriental dress and treated to some Japanese pop music videos on their DVD player. Japanese art lines the walls.
This place is really worth a visit, and deserves my third 5 star rating, its one of my favourite places ever, let alone in Manchester.

Wandering down Portland Street on the way to lunch at the (in?)famous Tai Wu, me and my girlfriend spied a sign outside Tokyo Season that said «50% off Sushi!».
«Yes»! We thought, coming from the Sushi wastelands of York, «cheap Sushi in Chinatown»!
We wandered down the stairs into the basement restaurant to be met by a thoroughly enthusiastic young woman wearing a kimono. We enquired about the 50% off sushi and were told that it was indeed on (Noon-​9pm, Mon-​Fri).
We were seated in a wonderfully authentic (? probably, I’ve never been to Japan) booth where we had to take our shoes off and sit on a sub floor table. Very nice touch.
Now, as you can tell by my four star score, not everything was perfect. Service took longer than most sushi places, around twenty minutes, and it was bloomin’ freezing. Also, after ordering, and waiting for fifteen minutes, we were told by the very enthusiastic waitress that on bank holidays (which it was) that it was not in fact 50% off, but 40% off with cash and 30% with card. This was annoying as we’d specifically asked if it was 50% off and went here on this basis, but it was too late to change at this point and we were hungry.
The sushi arrived in a very decorative platter, and my girlfriend and I, rather bemused and cold, were completely blown away by it’s quality. I was already writing a two star review in my head before it came but it was just that good. All bad was forgotten, and even though it was pricey, it was still worth the £17 for two drinks and about 10 pieces of sushi.
