A little gem off Cheetham Hill Road. Helpful staff and delicious food at great prices, better than Mughal Spice and Real Taste, on a par with Kabana. Top Quality has the nicest veg samosas, served with salad and sauce for just £1.50. The mixed veg curry was quite mild for me(I’m used to spicy food) but with a sliced ginger and chili garnish it was perfect. The chapatis are very nice also. I will return again and again :)

Wow, am I pleasantly surprised to find this curry café on here! I visit Top Quality now & again for my Sunday lunch. They prepare a fantastic Sunday special Lamb Nihari. This is a dish of very slow cooked lamb in a curry sauce of almost soup like consistency. I hadn’t experienced anything like it despite having patronised many curry places over the years. I’d definitely been missing out, as it is now one of my favourite dishes. The lamb is cooked over such a duration, that it is pretty much the most tender I have ever enjoyed. As I understand, it is traditionally a Pakistani breakfast dish served before morning prayers(although it is often eaten at any time of day). I’d recommend having it with all of the additional accompaniments/spices & a couple of roti. It is hot on the palate, with a bit of a kick, so beware if that’s not your thing. One last word on the premises and area. Please don’t go expecting a restaurant in the traditional sense, this is a café with formica tables etc, but it’s the food you visit for & what will make you return.

Top Quality has the usual curry café setup and is well worth a visit as offering generous portions, very reasonable prices and top quality! Located off the main thoroughfare, Top Quality is quieter than the likes of nearby Kabana and Mughal Taste, although business still seems to be ticking over nicely. Although it looks to have an almost exclusively Muslim customer base, I found the staff very hospitable. From just one visit, I would reckon this place is above average for vegetarian. I had fried rice, okra & tomato, dhal and a chapati. The chapati was so good that I ended up having another two, beautifully hot off the plate. All that took me right to the limit of my capacity at a single sitting, for the princely sum of £5.40. Let me expand a little more on the ‘top quality’: fried rice was just nicely oily and without any food colouring(good!); okra & tomato was just right; chapatis, although not from a tandoor are very nicely done with a dynamic young flatbread specialist keeping them coming. They also seem to be testing the water with a daily sweet dish, kheer and also carrot halva although I’m not sure that the customer demand is there due to other curry cafés tending not to offer dessert. All in all, a great value and peaceful curry café — definitely one of my favourites.
