Cornerhouse is the best night out on a Thursday by far. On Thursdays it’s called bar 69 with loads of drinks on offer for £1.69. Bargain! Three rooms so theres music for everybody. They are R&B, dance and indie. Theres a great atmosphere in them all. Queues can be quite long to get served but this is obviously expected. Bouncers are generally friends and have a laugh with you while your waiting to get in. Shuts about 3.30 so you deffinatly get your moneys worth from your fiver entery. Fridays it’s Sumo and Saturdays a gay night I believe but I’ve never been to either of these so cant comment but Thursdays are amazing here.

Whilst a student in Middlesbrough I used to frequent The Cornerhouse quite regularly. It is a great little venue and hosted lots of comedy and poets(less pretentious than it sounds) The upstairs room is large enough to host bigger evens such as parts of the university’s animation festival(including once An Interview with Bob Godfrey — creator of Henry’s Cat and Rhubarb & Custard) The venue is right next to the train station, so quite a distance from the main part of town. The surrounding area is as terrible as the rest of Middlesbrough so if you are planning a visit then I suggest you go as a group(you don’t want to be walking home from there on your own at 1am wearing your I Dig Seamus Heaney t-shirt! The drinks can be quite expensive compared to the more studenty drinking holes but the events are second to none.
