I have recently moved into the area so keen to weed out what is good and what’s just not. So far within 2 weeks we’ve ate here twice. Once takeaway and the second time in the restaurant. I really like this place I have to say. The food is typically very tasty. The Pad Thai is plentiful and delicious(although it was better sitting in than takeaway which I imagine is because it’s fresh out of the wok). We’ve had a whole range of starters thus far and only one which I would say was questionable on flavour. I’d be more than happy to take future visitors to the area into this place. Although I have to say what they do on flavour they lack in service so you’ve been warned! This place is packed at the weekends so I would recommend booking in advance. During the week it is actually still quite busy but they seem to put on a skeleton staff which doesn’t make sense!

Hadn’t been here for years, but a friend reminded us about it saying she’d had a great meal there. We went along a few days later to celebrate an anniversary. It’s been in Musselburgh for around ten years and we used to go a lot as Thai food in our area was a novelty. Have to say it’s even better now and the food we had was delicious. We had for starters: 11. Pla Meug Tord — Fresh squids in Thai style batter, deep fried and served with sweet chilli plum Sauce. GBP4.85 The batter was light and crisp and the squid was a few seconds over-done i.e. not a lot and still very nice. I like it almost raw-soft. There was quite a plateful and it included veggies dipped in batter as well. I think you could have one between two unless really hungry or used to eating a lot. Lovely tasty dipping sauce. I followed that with: 68. Panang Tao Hoo: Photo link: Photo link: Fresh mushrooms, vegetables and bean curd cooked in a mild panang curry paste, With coconut milk and lime leaves. GBP6.90 With steamed fragrant rice. GBP2. It was subtle and delicious and not overly hot. Really lovely. The restaurant is licensed but we felt like having Jasmine tea GBP1.50. The restaurant is not big and there appeared to be one cook and one Thai waitress with good English and a lovely smile. The décor, statues and pictures appear authentic and although not much of a wow factor, it’s fine for a low key occasion. You certainly don’t need to get all dolled up. There were only 7 diners there on a Tuesday night, although quite a few popped in for a carry-out. I imagine you’d need to book at the weekend. Service was very pleasant and the food is cooked specially so you do have to wait a while. The wait was worth it! They are currently doing lunch deals for GBP5. Haven’t tried them, but am very tempted when I feel like a wee treat to break up the working day. You’ll find the full menu and drinks menu plus opening times on their website. Recommended am saving my 5 stars for the Michelin starred guys if my hubbie ever takes the hint!

The Lanna Café or Lanna Thai as known to the locals of Musselburgh is located in the Fisherrow end of Musselburgh, next to the new Wetherspoons, it may look like any ordinary café but once inside, you check the menu and are pleasantly surprised at the variety of food on offer, delicious Thai dishes tat are cooked to perfection, and your run of the mill western fayre for the kids and non curry lovers, prices are excellent as is the service! definitely a must go to if in the area!

Ok so it looks like a café outside, but do yourself a favour and go in. Nice bright clean room, with Thai décor and some nice touches. But the food is the real star here, we loved it! Also the staff were really friendly and helpful and we loved the waitress’ red high(very) heeled shoes!!! Prices are competitive too. All in all, this is a wee gem of a restaurant don’t miss it. We will be back for sure.

ooooooh a whole lot of finger shaking going on for a very sub par delivery. Congealed pad thai and just cooked vegetable cakes. What was supposed to be a mini celebration turned into a mini-meh. Not awful, but expected much much better from Lanna Thai, so much so, downgraded 2 stars as hand on heart, that was a poor show of a meal. My last meal dining in the restaurant was still fine, so am putting it down to this being a takeaway meal and hoping the standards haven’t slipped that far.

Looks like a fairly ordinary run of the mill café, but produces Thai food to die for! If you like Thai cuisine, try the Lanna Thai. The food is gorgeous — and the staff are always willing to explain dishes to you or recommend accompaniments to go with a particular dish.
