Too much faith in the hype let it down for me. Will try again and maybe try something different. Just remember thinking the base was a bit standard and toppings under seasoned.

Best and most likely the most healthy pizza (or ‘pie’) you can get in Newcastle.
Cal clearly knows his stuff as this pizza left a delicious after taste in my mouth, unlike dominoes/​pizza hut which just leave me feeling sick.
This thin pizza was the bees knees!

Just popping back in a year later to say that Cal’s Own is still the best pizza in Newcastle. We’ve been three or four more times and always love it. No complaints. Actually last time, service was really really slow — apparently our pizza had a hole in it when it came out of the oven and had to be tossed away and a new one made. We waited for ages but then we were given a free dessert and received profuse apologies. I don’t mind when things go wrong at a restaurant if the staff makes up for it — and they did!
We’ve tried lots of toppings — meatballs and spinach was our most recent combo and it was wonderful. I love how abundant they are with the spinach, instead of just the scant sprinkling of like one leaf per piece that you sometimes get. The crust is just perfectly crisp, and it isn’t overwhelmingly cheesy like American pizza can be. Don’ get me wrong, there is cheese, but it’s not heavy. We usually split a large between two of us (that’s 8 slices). We either barely finish it or save one piece to take home and eat later. Definitely come here for the tastiest pizza in town! And they’re BYOB so bring your favorite bottle.

I’ve been trying to eat here for the longest time but something always seemed to come up! Finally though yesterday our day came! We ordered via phone for a take out. The menu here is really simple, and I like that, it makes it quick to decide what you want and you don’t end up over thinking it. The pizza was delicious, we opted for chicken, peppers and mushrooms, the base was the perfect doughey /​crispy mix, not too soggy but still with texture. I’d have given five stars but I feel like it needed a touch more tomato. When i went to collect the pizza I was really impressed with how clean and open the kitchen was. If it wasn’t for the calories in pizza I’d eat here quite regularly!
