Highfields Park

WAG1 say’s Highfields stinks, maybe he’s one of the few uni students who take drugs and drink beer etc near the waterfalls and stepping stones? maybe if they didn’t do that the park would be a much better and cleaner place, My daughter and I love to walk around the park, feed the squirrels and the ducks. Then play on the play area for a while before we go home. :)

Highfeilds stinks If it is looked after more it would be better.

It is a long time since I have walked round this park. I had forgotten how lovely it is. Do the students appreciate it?
I walked around the lake and bumped into the tamest, fattest suirrels ever! I wish I’d had my camera — (my sister will now tell me off for not having it!)
When you consider how close it is to main roads and a built up area, it is remarkably peaceful and tranquil. You could actually walk a fair few miles as it is also close to Wollaton Park.
When I spoke to my son later that evening, he remembered going on the boating lake when he was very young. He’s coming back home for a bit soon — maybe he’ll take me!

Highfields Park covers a large area within the grounds of Nottingham University but open to the public. A large boating lake and smaller lake with stepping stones set a tranquil atmosphere away from the busy roads nearby, and the tamest squirrel population anywhere complement the experience. The play park for young children has a great variety of equipment and sometimes includes huge inflatable bouncy castles for added entertainment. The only frustrating aspect of the play area is the use of sand as a base which finds its way into shoes, socks and pockets ! This end of the park also hosts a fun fair with rides aimed at older children and teenagers.

Lakeside, which is part of University Park, is a wonderful location with varied attractions. Pleasant walks around the lake aside, there is also a fine children’s playground, an arts centre (including a theatre, exhibition space and café), a separate art gallery and a pitch-​and-​putt course. It’s also possible during the main season to hire rowing boats on the lake. The backdrop of the university buildings makes for an attractive location and, although parking facilities are a little limited, the location attracts a varied crowd all year round without ever becoming too busy. An excellent alternative to some of the more frenetic attractions out there.

A local park just on the outskirts of Nottingham city centre-​on the back of the university campus. Good to walk/​run around– easy walking if your mobility is limited. Kids love it here as there are plenty of ducks to feed, lots of squirells to look for in the woods and a boating late where you can rent a boat to paddle around in (summer months only) Lots of nature and wildlife to see. There are good open fields to have a good game of cricket/​rounders/​football. The café on site offers great tasting sandwiches and for those that don’t count the caleries– the cake is pretty good too! Easy to spend half a day here.
