Briar Dawn Veterinary Centre is a friendly welcoming practice offering high standards of care for pets and their families. We have 3 experienced veterinary surgeons supported by 5 qualified veterinary nurses and a friendly reception team. The practice is well equipped, having radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, ECG, a dental suite, a large operating theatre and fully equipped in-​house lab. This enables many tests to be completed the same day so that treatment can be progressed rapidly. The practice offers a full range of clinical services from vaccinations, neutering, worming and flea treatment to investigation and management of more complex heart, liver, chest and skin diseases. We tailor the investigation/​treatment to your requirements, working within budgets or to gold standards as appropriate. As well as closely monitoring all inpatients, the nurses run clinics to support pets offering everything from nail clipping to advice on behaviour, diabetes, arthritis and weight management

History

Established in 2004.

on the site of a previous veterinary practice following extensive refurbishment and modernisation. Shortly after opening, the practice won an award from the feline advisory bureau for our standards of care for cats, and we were accredited at the highest level for a general practice by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. The ethos of the practice has always been to offer a friendly environment so that nervous pets and their owners feel comfortable and welcome. We have longer appointment times so that owners have time to explain their concerns and discuss options for investigations or treatment, and the vet has plenty of time to listen and thoroughly examine your pet. We are continually upgrading our equipment and improving our knowledge so that we can offer up to date treatments. As the practice has expanded we have been able to negotiate better prices for medicines and pass these onto clients as they happen

Business Owner

I qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 1996 and initially worked in mixed practices treating everything from mice to shire horses. I particularly enjoyed working with pets, and have an interest in soft tissue surgery and dentistry. I also briefly ran a veterinary home visit practice and was surprised to meet so many clients who hated visiting the vets almost as much as they hated going to the dentist. In 2004 I took up the opportunity to run my own practice, and wanted to offer a friendly welcoming environment for owners and their pets to visit, where they could have high quality veterinary service from experienced knowledgeable staff. The practice has grown considerably since then, and we continue to strive to improve. I live in Halifax with my son and love being outside on the moors in my spare time.
