History
Established in 1990.
The Salt Cellar was created from an idea by the Reverend Wesley Cooke and Derek Simmons. Local Methodists set it up for the people of Oldham town centre, whether shoppers or workers, to have a place to gather and eat in a peaceful, welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
The Salt Cellar project started fully when 10 Church Lane was purchased. It became so popular that we moved to the larger premises of 11a Church Lane. This Grade II listed building was formerly the county court and has many original and beautiful features.
The Salt Cellar has become a base for youth work and somewhere offering help and counselling for local people as well as a thriving business.
Today the restaurant is run with the help of over 100 volunteers who are crucial to the business. Along with the restaurant many activities take place during the day plus a worshipping community on Sunday.
