Didn’t open it, just tossed it and walked off The«sigh» when we didn’t order starters The 4 times he hit me as he walked by… I wasn’t sticking out, he just knocked me and then apogized each time The super sweet tomatoe sauce for the bolognaise and the pizzas never again. A place that if you miss good ol’ US pizza, you come here for a reminder. It’s not amazing, but gets the job done. Portions here are appropriate for the price and surprisingly, it’s a sit down restaurant that all around me, were people on dates. Dates… at a pizza joint… in Oxford? Go fig!!!

The quality of the pizza is above what you would expect from Domino’s, Pizza Hut, etc. Some of the toppings are a little inventive and fairly tasty. However, it’s over-priced: about £23 per person for our group. Most of the pizzas had thin crusts(which can be fine), little sauce, little cheese, and somewhat skimpy toppings. The«light» pizzas have a large hole in the middle of them.

Delicious delicious delicious. I miss this place so much. I wish there was one in the states. I used to come here often when I attended University in Oxford. The atmosphere is great, the service was good, and the food was the best. I loved their pasta!

Great location tucked away off cornmarket. upstairs and downstairs seating with good service and as always quite reasonable prices for the food quality. Never gets to busy due to its quiet location.

My first trip to the famous Pizza Express! While the name sounds like it would be a hole-in-the-wall take-away place, it’s actually a nice sit-down restaurant. I had half of a three-mushroom and ham pizza. The crust was thin and crispy with small charred patches that were a small burst of flavour. The sauce and cheese were thin, which was good because it left the focus on the three types of mushroom and the thin slices of salty ham. The Caesar salad was great, with a smooth and creamy homemade dressing and thin slices of anchovy.

This is a chain restaurant but the quality of the food is way above chain fare. There is a Pizza Hut in Oxford but I would not choose that over Pizza Express. They offer a wide variety of «exotic»(non-traditional American) pizza, with an option to get thin crust for a bit more. Go for the thin, the curst is cooked to perfection in a genuine wood oven. I love this place. You will find it everywhere throughout UK.

Hell. Yes. As a history student, I am absolutely in love with this branch of Pizza Express. I won’t go into the history of the place, since everyone else has already done so, just know that eating there surrounded by families with kids screaming and not appreciating the beautiful wall coverings, original(I assume) floors, and amazing fireplace in the back function room. I will, however, delve deeply into the magic that is their dessert menu. Yes, the pizza is good. It is standard. Yes, I’d kill a man for one of the desserts. I have no idea now what it is called, but there is a picture of it on this website. Get it. It’s the best thing ever. You won’t be sorry.

The Cornmarket branch of Oxford’s Pizza Express is a bittersweet diamond. Your have to hand it to Pizza Express for their locations, more often than not they are architecturally or historically significant and usually match the fine wine and decent food pretty well. PE get the WOW factor for their restaurant, and in exchange we get them to preserve noteworthy places for us. They even let us visit them simply for the price of doughballs and salad or a delicious if predictable pizza — it’s like the National Trust but with garlic bread. What is sad though, is when you wish the location wasn’t just a Pizza chain and could be what it used to be. This PE and the surrounding shops used to be The Golden Cross — a pub and coaching inn that was in the top 5 Oldest Pubs in the UK. The building is 400 years old, the pub was 700 years old. Shakespeare even did a performance of Hamlet here in 1593. Don’t you wish you could’ve seen it as it was supposed to be? An ancient pub and hotel with traditional food instead of a few shops and a pizza place often full of screaming kids. Well, you got very close — it only shut as a pub in 1991. Don’t blame PE though, it was cheapo New College that sold the pub off. At least PE are doing their best to preserve it, crooked wooden rooms, stenciled walls, ancient fireplaces and all.
