Tamar Bridge & Torpoint Ferry Joint Commitee

You dont have a choice other than to use the ferry unless you want to drive the long way around.
We dont use this very often as we are not commuters, but the times we have used it have been very smooth with no problems.
There are three lanes either side for cars to queue and there is also a queuing area for pedestrians or cyclists to get on.
During peak times they run every 10 minutes, but during quieter times they reduce this. I have never had to wait long and the staff are very quick and effiecient at getting all the cars off and all the waiting ones onto the ferry.
On a nice day it is quite nice to get out the car and have a look out along the river — although you dont have long to do this!
It is £1 for the journey, or regular travellers often use the tamar tag system whereby they pay 50p.

Unless your willing to drive quite a long way round, or go to Torpoint and use the ferry, the Tamar Bridge, is the only way to get in and out of Cornwall. Since they have added the two outside lanes the traffic has improved. This gives pedestrian and bike access which is much safer and an additional lane out of Saltash Town Center which greatly helps the local traffic. This leaves the other 3 lanes with the third one changing direction depending on the time of day and usually related to the bulk of the traffic in rush hour. Charges are £1 for single payments and 50p if you have the ‘Tamar Tag’ system in your car– I did find it a bit unnerving however when I got my first online statement for my account and it listed the exact times I was crossing the bridge– a bit too much ‘Big Brother watching’ for me.

You kinda don’t have a choice (save for the ferry!) so it’s all relative.really. the bridge is what it is. it is now only well staffed as with the Tag, they don’t need so many. It is still a pain in rush hour despite the dreadful ‘Nippon Clipon’ bits that were added a few years ago. it is even worse if some idiot is trying to chuck themselves off it as traffic comes to a standstill.
I notice that after an accident and there is a huge tailback, they never just open the gates to get the traffic moving, they insist on collecting the money.

On a clear day this is a lovely walk over the tamar bridge — you can view the yachts and boats on the river tamar and the walk is the right distance for most i would of thought. On a rainy, windy day however this would be a totally different story — so make sure you go on a nice day

Unless you want to drive a long way around, the only way to get into Cornwall is via the bridge or the ferry. It does currently cost £1 to cross, but if you are a regular commuter it is worth investing in a tag as this halves the price. You only pay coming from Cornwall, so it is not too bad. They are both well staffed and maintained.

Helpful, efficient and extremely quick with dealing with and returning applications for disabled people wanting to use the pass card if they have a blue badge.
Always have to laugh when emmets roll up to the tag only barrier and try reversing when they realise they arent going to get anywhere!!!

Has to be given a good rating as it is the only way in and out of cornwall!!!
