The Souk

Whilst the starters were promising, with interesting flavours, the mains were rather poor. My meatballs were bland and the accompanying cous-​cous had a few slivers of almond but no raisins or other additions to give it texture and taste. The small amount of gravy that came with this did nothing to enhance the meal except to moisten it a bit. My wife’s dish consisted of several pieces of dry chicken, cooked beyond any recognisable taste, on a bed of lettuce leaves & cucumber slices, with no salad dressing. Finishing this dish, even with the dip, was a struggle. All in all, this was a poor, poor meal and there is nothing I could say to commend this restaurant which values style over substance. We won’t be back.

Like walking into a bland post war shopping unit in somewhere like Slough or Swindon and then being confronted with the contents of an early 80s moroccan furniture and nick nack store. The food is different and not bad. Pity when we looked it up online and discovered it was part of a novelty group of international theme restaurants around Sutton Harbour.

A formula food place. Put together as part of the burgeoning group of all different foreign food eateries put together by local iranian restraunteur Edmond Davari. If you want to eat couscous from low tables (or should it be highish chairs) in a small unit under a block of flats surrounded by the contents of a Morroccan nick nack shop then this may be for you.

Great décor and staff. Fantastic food. The staff are friendly and full of usggestions and ideas.

The Souk Restaraunt is mesmerising as soon as you walk in. It walls are decorated in the style that justifys the name and most of the bits are for sale. They have good food, including a mezze style menu with good choices for vegetarians, also lunch and group booking options. It really is like walking down the street in morrocco with all the right sights and sounds. reasonalby priced with an o. k wine menu. If you go, try the pastries for dessert! they are amazing.

The Souk is a very friendly and sociable place to eat. It has an eclectic mix of furniture and lighting of which most can be bought if you like it. The food is traditional Moroccan food with mezzes seeming to be the most popular as you can order many dishes that will be served for you to share with friends which can prove good for conversation topics! The food is served quickly and you can choose to sit on the comfy sociable sofas or the larger more western style tables.!! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who fancies a different night out.
