For some reason i’ve never been comfortable going into the Shah and I’ve never been able to work out why. It is now also a hotel as well as a pub, but the emphasis is definitely on the food rather than it being somewhere to go and have a night on the beer. They have an offer of 2 for 1 if you are over 55(I’m not!) and the few times I’ve been there the average age has been well into the 70s and the atmosphere has been non-existent. It’s a place to go for a carvery if you have friends or relatives over on a Sunday lunch but other than that I really wouldn’t recommend it as a place to go for a serious drink.

I’m never quite sure how I feel about The Shah. It’s a landmark as it sits on a cross roads, so therefore it’s easy to meet someone there either for business purposes or if they’ve just arrived in town. It’s quite spacious, but I’ve always felt the décor isn’t right. But it’s comfortable and the loos are clean. The lunch menu is a bit unexciting, in my opinion. But the carvery is great. In fact, it’s superb. I’ve had a few meals from the carvery, and probably will have a few more. It is now a hotel or guest house. I’ve never stayed there, and am unlike to as it’s only two miles away! I do find when I go there that I meet people who know me. (Because of my work.) I don’t remember them and it’s all very distracting from being with my companion. I don’t like this, and it the main reason I don’t go there lots.
