Vue Cinemas

Quite a nice cinema to visit. Not only were the staff incredibly friendly and helpful, but the toilets were clean (and let’s be honest, that is rarely the case in many cinemas), there was no gum under my seat and they were comfortable/​clean, and the food counter was quick.
Prices of tickets are fairly high, and normally I try to avoid going out, but compared to London they are a steal (London asks for your first born). I do recommend you bring in snacks, or simply eat before/​after as the prices are severe.
I made the mistake of visiting with only three layers on. It was fracking freezing within that theatre! Bring a heavy scarf, or you will be dreaming of a warm duvet throughout your film.

Over priced and managed by idiots, Reading’s Vue Cinema is wisely avoided in favour of the town’s Showcase. The tickets are laughably over priced as are all refreshments there, the cinema screens themselves have often been unpleasantly cold, I have twice found the toilets smelling quite abysmally, and the lack of sufficient staff invariably seems to mean that the box office is closed forcing you to have to stand behind an army of chavs, queueing to buy a ticket from a hot dog stand.
Beyond this, my singular run in with the management has left me astonished that the place is still in business at all. Visiting with my girlfriend who is a full time student at the University of Reading, I bought her a student ticket — as seemed appropriate — being careful to ensure she had her University card with her. However, on attempting to enter the screen, we were stopped because the university card does not have an expiry date visible on it. I pointed out that my girlfriend had only recently started at the university and that the card was clearly brand new and unblemished. Also, that we had been unaware that a university card with an expiry date was needed. But my appeal to common sense fell on deaf ears. I requested to speak to a supervisor and was approached by the most senior monkey available. It was policy, I was told, to only accept university cards with expiry dates as proof of student ID. That it didn’t say this anywhere clearly, and that we had quite obviously made an understandable and perfectly innocent mistake — presuming that a student at the town’s own university, in possession of a valid student card, would constitute ‘a student’ in the illustrious eyes of Vue — proved startlingly insufficient to entice the one-​off discretionary «okay, but remember for next time“‘ that should have been forthcoming under such circumstances. Instead, in a move that showed a complete lack of initiative, business acumen and customer service, I was told to surrender additional funds to cover the upgrade to a full adult ticket or we would be refused admission — this from a man who indignantly corrected me that he was the manager not a supervisor (as if that had any real meaning in a cinema) when I pointed out it was surely at his discretion to just allow us through this once as the auditorium was by now filling up. If it was within his power — and with hindsight I suspect it may not have been, pathetic peeon that he was, or perhaps the decision demanded greater intellect than was at his immediate disposal — he could have let us in, lost no money since my girlfriend was, in fact, a student, left us happy and ensured we knew for next time. Instead he chose to be obstructive, unjustly demanding further payment which was inconveniently time consuming, and ensured I would never willingly set foot in there ever again. His justification was bewildering; that without a date on the card, a student could have left university already. Okay Sherlock, explain to me how the presence of an expiry date on a piece of plastic proves that someone has not left or dropped out of university with any greater certainty. It doesn’t, of course. In any event, I paid the monkey, expressed my frustration at his existence, and entered the cinema in time to take up the last remaining seats in the front row… which being the Reading Vue, means that watching the film from this position entailed the inevitable cricked neck and considerable discomfort. So thanks Reading Vue and your retarded approach to customer service for an unforgettably bad experience. Your extra £1.25 was undoubtedly worth ruining my evening and costing you hundreds in lost revenues from my subsequent cinema trips to anywhere else.
A crap cinema, poorly trained staff and ludicrously over priced. If that sounds like your cup of tea, head on down!

climatisation,
gros fauteils très confortable (plus gros, plus rembouré et en cuir en option).
Toujours presque 9 films a l’affiche.
Si vous pouvez profiter de l’offre Orange Wednesday, c’est 1 place achetée, une place offerte.

Two words great cinema ! All these cheap moaning people need to realise, its pricey so they can make money ! Cinema is great so definatly go there !

I go here all the time, it’s modern and well kept so if you get chocolate on your clothes then it’s very likey that you dropped it on yourself.
Lots of screens means lots of choice, recently installed VIP seats — a quid or so more but worth it.
It is expensive (especially 3D movies in the VIPA seats) but that’s what orange wednesday’s are for!
Staff are friendly and helpful, food is ridiculously expensive though — there are plenty of restaurants either side so not a problem.
Please stand up for yourself web some MoFo has taken your seat — it is NOT first come first served (that’s why your seat number is written on the ticket — Doh!).
There is no free carpark and no surrounding roads that you could hope to get a lucky space either.
There is however a large multistory right next to the cinema.

I want to be able to write a review having seen a movie here, but I simply can’t justify the price. £7.80 for a weekend viewing. That’s like $ 13 in real money! They do offer 25% discounts on matinée showings on weekdays, but nope, not on Saturday or Sunday. So I’m afraid I won’t be able to visit you because I’m not made of money.

For an upcoming city such as Reading, I find it difficult to understand how we have such a poor cinema.
With 2 decent sized screens going to the cinema just isn’t fun. A cinema experience is watching it ont he big screen in a comfortable atmosphere, not cramming as many screens into one location and comprimising on experience.
And to top it all off the pricing is rediculous and expensive from, the tickets are above average pricing and the food and drink is not worthwile !

woooohooooo! fantastic Star Trek movie! for any trekie’s out there this film is brilliant, all the actors in this movie really pull off traits of the original TV /​movie characteristics. and all the humour that go’s with it!
or if yo have never even seen star trek, you will enjoy it just as much! a great deep space adventure!

if i go to see a movie and want to get comfortable and watch it on a great big screen with great sound, and this venue never fails to provide it! have never had any problems at vue Reading!
Ticket price for a day time viewing was £6.30
But as with all cinemas the try and rip you of with the price of confectionery’s and Drinks: small coke: £2.60
(best try sneak your own in!)

Vue cinema in the Oracle, Reading has a great many screens and many films to choose from.
They have a bar, as well as popcorn, icecream, sweets, drinks, and lots lots more that you can munch through during your film.
Vue cinema participates in the Orange Wednesdays promotion and also the GetFilmFree screenings of new and future releases.
This means that it is not necessary to pay £8 a ticket.
Another thing that I like about this cinema is the comfort of the theatres.
The chairs are large and well padded.
The films quite often have a subtitles screening so look out for these if you are hard of hearing or if english is not your first language where the subtitles really aid your enjoyment of the film.

I’ve found myself in Vue many a time on my trips to Reading because it’s in an ideal location (on the modern riverside) in the heart of some of the big restaurants and bars such as Nandos, slug and lettuce, Chillis etc. It’s also right near the shopping centre.
The whole cinema is very modern and appealing to look at. There are two tickets sales points — downstairs and upstairs where the refreshments are sold. But! The ticket prices are awful. Even as a student with valid id, I only get reduced to £6 which is terrible I think. And the queues for tickets are really long cause everyones buying tickets at the same time. Also, in an attempt to reduce people trying to sneak into other cinemas after one film has finished, they assign you seats which is quite frankly an awful idea I think. Say you’re running a bit late and you meet your friends there, you technically run the risk of not being with your friends. It also means if you turn up early before everyone else but everyone else got their seats earlier you still end up being right at the front craning your necks up to the screen at an awkward angle (when this happened at Quantum of Solace, we left early and actually asked for a refund because we could only see half the screen).
Even the refreshments are pricy and you can’t take your own food in. The seats however are comfy and have the novelty of lifting arms so girls if you’re trying to rest your head on your partners shoulder, no more having a plastic arm digging in your side.
However I don’t rate it that much though the location factor and seat comfort are a plus.

Vue Reading is located amongst a variety of restaurant chains by the river, including a Nando’s Chickenland, a Bella Italia and a small Starbucks café. The cinema itself is a typical vue cinema, albeit slightly more expensive than it should be considering the screen size is not the best, and the seats are relatively quite uncomfortable.
Parking is available in the Oracle car park, but you do have to pay for this, so this would add to the cost of your visit even further. The food and drinks available are typical to what you would expect a cinema — soft drinks, ice cream, popcorn and sweets, and all at the typical cinema marked up price that makes them quite expensive. If you want a cheaper experience it would probably be better to try and bring your own sweets and drinks in.

A nice cinema, a bit expensive but better than other cinemas nearby with bigger screens and much more comfortable seats which is worth the little bit of extra money! Different food and snacks are available inside although again they’re a little bit expensive, however its in quite a good location and easy to access either by car or public transport.

Hugely overpriced and not allowed to take in your own snacks which I think is outrageous!

I think this place is really overpriced anyway, but when you add on the fact that you have to pay for the carpark as well its just silly. However, if you happen to have vouchers and are maybe heading into town anyway its a really good place, modern and comfortable, good facilities, and friendly staff.
I really enjoy going to the oracle to watch a film, then off to one of the many restaurants.
