S1 is a small artist-run gallery and studio space, hidden away in the courtyard behind Corporation. Getting in can be hard work — first you have to find it, then negotiated around the parked cars and dustbins, then ring the doorbell and wait for it to be opened. But once inside and up the stairs, it’s worth the trouble. The gallery puts on regular exhibitions of contemporary art by studio-holders and artists from further afield, plus there are occasional performances and parties, and an annual season of video art showings.
