Our shop in Shoreham West Sussex serves wholesale and retail customers with a superior quality and diversity of fresh fish & shellfish.
From locally caught fish and shellfish to more unusual imported species, fresh and frozen our shop provides it all. We specialise in all manners of seafood and our friendly & knowledgeable staff are always happy to assist wherever possible with all your needs. We are fully committed to preparing all our fish on the premises at your request.
Our boats land today’s catch directly onto our quayside and within a matter of just a few hours of being caught the fish is presented in our shop ready for your plate!
We provide a number of Sussex pubs, restaurants, residential care homes and caters with their seafood needs, offering wholesale prices, preparation and free delivery to local establishments.
Shop discounts are given to all fresh fish orders over £100 and are also available on wholesale prices.
History
Established in 1974.
Monteum originally operated from Shoreham Beach, where as a young lad the proprietor, Jim Partridge learnt to fish, and where the locals have been buying Jim’s catch of the day since 1957.
In 1981 Pete Huxtable MBE joined forces with Jim creating a dynamic duo and forming the backbone of Monteum that remains to this day.
Monteum had a new home in 1983 when the quayside at Fisherman’s Wharf was purchased. Back then Monteum predominantly provided fish to the UK and European wholesale market. The retail fish shop, La Poissonnerie, opened in 1993 providing a retail outlet to the local community.
In 2014 Monteum began making plastic parlour Lobster Pots. These pots are used by the fleet of boats on our quayside and are also on sale to the wholesale market.

Business Owner
Jim learnt to fish as a young lad off Shoreham Beach. Although he tried to follow a conventional career, the sea and fishing were in his blood. In 1974 he «retired» from his career and followed his dream by establishing Monteum Limited.
