Am I reviewing a Tesco? Yes I am. I found myself in Slough 3 times in a week and a taxi driver pointed out that this is the largest grocery store in Europe. I don’t know if this is true, but since I didn’t have a train for awhile I went in and it had a lot to offer. I found a lot of hard to find items, and the«foreign» section was great for finding hard to find ingredients. I wouldn’t travel to Slough just for this, but if your stuck at the train station it’s a good way to kill sometime and discover a few food items you didn’t know exist, Cadbury Cream Egg Pudding for one!

I remember when this Tesco started off life as a humble Tesco. You could park here, quickly run into town to either get stuff done or shop at M&S and scurry back in your time limit. That is still possible of course but now it’s a Tesco Extra. I’m guessing it’s Tesco Extra Huge. I remember after the renovations were done that this place was gigantic. It had absolutely everything in one place. It’s like a Super Target on steroids. The variety and sheer bulk of items here is impressive to say the least. It almost has to be seen to be believed!

Just moved to slough and love this tesco store can possibly buy everything you need and has the biggest section of foods I have never seen before which targets the diverse cultures — very small kosher section though which is disappointing compared to the amount of halal foods available.

Ok. I’m gonna say it. I don’t care what anyone says size. does. matter. And this is the Mac Daddy of all the Tescos I’ve ever seen in all my 22 years. So excited was I that a woman was laughing at me whilst going up in the lift. Pharmacy, hair salon, butchers, bakers, candlestick makers… ok that last one was made up but still. Even better was their entire aisle(yes, a WHOLEAISLE) for ‘free from’ food which forced me to accept the fact that I’m a gimmicky salespersons wet dream as I walked out with a box of Gorrilla Crunch cereal just because it had a gorrilla on the front… the fact that about half the money per box goes to the rainforest was something of an after thought. I’m 22 damn it! 22!

This place is HUGE! It’s one of the bigger Tesco Extras that I’ve been to. You get lots of variety on different products, rather than shelves full of the same product(like their Camberley’s Extra store). Lots of parking, and choice of krispy kreme, Indian sweets shop, hairdressers, or butchers to stop at on your way out!

Tesco is where I do my most regular shop, and by the looks of how busy it always is, where most people seem to shop. Most of the time its really hard to find any parking and you’ll just be driving around and around waiting for someone to leave. Tesco has pretty much everything you could possibly need from foods from around the world, clothes, computers, televisions, pharmacy and random bits and pieces that we all need. The staff are pretty competant and know where everything is and are quite helpful. I would say that one of the things i don’t like about it is the ‘choose your own pasta’ section. As i am a vegetarian i couldn’t try everything there however most of it was vegetarian and i have to say it was pretty dry and tasteless. It was quite cheap but not worth it. Their bakery however makes really really nice cookies and doughnuts. The doughnuts however not comparable to krispy kreme downstairs. They also have a café which has a really nice breakfast and lunch menu and at a cheap price. When i went there I was really surprised at how good quality the food was because usually at those prices you don’t expect much. Beware however you are not allowed to eat food you buy from tesco in the café area.

Upon first stepping in the mammoth supermarket my mind was wizzing with excitement. After evaluating the café(flopp, don’t go there unless you are a builder) we checked out the rest of the place. As you would expect it had everything from tea to TVs and failed to disappoint. I left with a bargain on cookies and milk which was one of the best lunches I’ve had this year.

When I travel, I love visiting the markets of the foreign countries, even if they were super-megamarts. So when I stopped at the Slough Bus Station to transfer and saw this behemoth, I had to stop and take a look-see. This is truly one megamart, with a supermarket, pharmacy, café, gas station, and even a Krispy Kreme on premises!(£1.30/ea glazed, if you’re wondering). What strikes you is how many checkout stands there are, and how many people are there on a Sunday afternoon. I like the 24hour aspect of it, so now I know where to go for supplies while at Heathrow. I visited the Hot Deli section and got myself a bacon joint(Yank translation: Roasted Ham Hock) for £1.95… it was awesomely delicious and well worth the US$ 3. What a deal! I also picked up some chips/crisps that had«unusual» flavors to take home. Oh, and some apple juice… take that, Sheraton!

I think this is the biggest Tesco store in the UK as it is set up like a warehouse. Due to the vast size you can expect that there will be plenty of variety which there is. They are open 24hours which is very useful and the checkouts are usually empty then. The biggest downfall is the car park. There is hardly ever any space and the few isolated spots you do find are right near the back. The reason the back of the car park is so congested aswell is probably due to the number of people parking and jumping on the train which is based right next door. Also the Queensmere shopping centre is right opposite so many people park for free in order to shop in the high street. Tesco have been clamping down on this but i haven’t seen any improvement in the parking situation which for me is a deterrent to shop there.
