The Whey Pat is the archetypal Scottish pub of St. Andrews. Interesting pics of the old town, and a great pint of Belhaven Best! Also free sandwiches and pies on certain days. It’s a local pub for locals, but they’re friendly to visitors too! Highly recommend!

I found this place by an accident when I walk around in St Andrews for the first time and I just though it’s could be nice to take some whisky and Scottish beer. I was just surprise how amazing this place was and the bartender was kind and take good care of the customers. You can see differences year of people get in there. There was students and seniors and for me as tourist in St Andrews I just could not find a better place to drink whisky and beer and have a very good time. Another thing I really like with this place was that they have opportunity that you could test difference beers in small glasses. I met a man there he was around 80 and come here every single day to drink and meet he mates. I saw some customers playing some darts. My point is that this place is my favourite place to get a long and have fun with your friends. I just coming back to this bar when I get back to St Andrews again!

This quaint pub is pleasantly placed at the end of one of the three main streets in St Andrews. It tends to attract more locals than tourists. This makes for a more intimate environment. After numerous recommendations, I finally tried the famous Whey Pat nachos. They are quite good, don’t get me wrong, but I wouldn’t necessarily called them legendary. They mix cheese, chips, and tomato sauce(wouldn’t call it salsa) and heat it all up. It ends up in a huge bowl of warm delight. They are good like I said l, but I wish the tomato sauce had a bit more kick and you had the possibility to get sour cream, guacamole, or vegetarian toppings.

Five stars for the nachos! This pub also has a great location and decent atmosphere. I came in alone for my tea and a pint and didn’t feel awkward at all. My only regret is that it will take me a week to walk off these amazing nachos!

A fantastic pub right next to the picturesque Westport Gate in St Andrews town centre. The atmosphere is cosy and lively and the staff are very welcoming. They normally have a selection of at least 5 real ales and a big shelf full of whiskies. Bar snacks are served all day and are delicious. Make sure to try a bowl of chilli nachos, or one of the double decker sandwiches. Watch out for the Whey Pat Ale Festival in October each year — drink ten different ales and get a free t-shirt.

Really a great pub! Has an awesome traditional atmosphere, with a lot of really good beers on tap. Friendly staff. Larger room on the back for bigger parties. Used to go here during my tenure with the StAU Fencing team, and always had a good time. My favorite thing about the Whey Pat is that they are the only pub in St. Andrews(to my knowledge) with a DARTBOARD. Nothing better than having a pint with some friends while playing a round of cricket. Overall an excellent pub.

This pub is often exactly what you need at the end of the day. It is relaxed in the afternoon and always rotates its cask selection at a pretty quick clip. While the choices are rarely anything terribly adventuresome, they have a solid record with the real ales folks. They’re good for drinks deals; especially their monthly malt selection. It is hard to beat £1.89 for a dram of Talisker and the like, and of course they have the full range of cocktail spirits if thats what you’re looking for. There are better places in St. Andrews for mixed drinks but if you’re in a group of ale drinkers, you won’t be without your own sustenance. the food, though simply heated in the microwave, is very satisfying and a bowl of Whey Pat Nachos can really go a long way. A good selection of draught beers, ciders and bottled drinks, combined with a cozy atmosphere makes for an all around good pub.

This pub is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside! Being in a convenient location and being one of the few pubs in St Andrews serving a good selection of real ales, the pub is popular with both locals and students. Staff are friendly and happy to advise you on which of the numerous new ales to try. Groups gather here for drinking, playing darts, or just a lively discussion in one of the pubs’ many corners. It is one of those pubs that seems to be genuinely friendly. Another highlight is the Real Ale Festival, with the last one being held in October this year and the next one possibly next semester — a large variety of ales to sample over the course of one weekend!
