You know how frustrating it is to have to use a trader directly out of the paper or a directory without getting recommendations first. But if an emergency occurred, say in the middle of the night or at the weekend, then you simply had no choice in the matter.

If work isn’t carried out to your satisfaction, the whole experience can leave a bitter taste in your mouth, not to mention a hole in your pocket.

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a website that could put you in touch with local, reliable tradesmen whose work had been checked out — a website that was as good as a personal recommendation? History

Established in 2005.

Trust a Trader was founded in 2005 by Gary McEwen, who started the business following negative experience with tradespeople that work on his home renovation project. Work that should have taken 6 months was still ongoing 2 and a half years later.

McEwen felt let down by the advertisers that he had sourced the tradespeople through. Despite promoting the traders, they were in no way connected to them and had no capacity to act as an advocate on his behalf, giving him no avenues to pursue to rectify the problem.

This is why McEwen created Trust a Trader, which only lists tradespeople that offer a quality service.
