History
Established in 1861.
The Westbrook Hotel opened it’s doors in 1861 as a hotel for the wealthy and powerful people of the age, along with the rest of Scarborough Road. It has had several changes of ownership since that time, but we took over in 2004 and removed the Hotel status to comply with Visit Britain standards at that time. We are now a licensed guest house, offering 6 guest rooms, and hope to offer everyone an excellent stay. We are no longer graded by an official body, but we do uphold the same principles — safety, cleanliness, first class service and we use local suppliers as much as possible to reduce our carbon footprint.
Meet the Business Owner
Maureen T.
Business Owner
I started my life’s work in a secretarial role until I had children. While they were young I did whatever part time work I could — waitress, cleaner, book keeper but returned to office work when I returned to a full time job. I went back to college and did a course on accounts but then in 2000 I had a complete change. I took on care work, firstly in a residential home and later going on to home care, and I went back to college again to do a course on massage. I also attended a lot of 1-day courses on various holistic therapies, including magnetism, colour healing, etc. I then set myself up as self employed, and combined care work with massage and I continued with this until moving to The Westbrook. Although I had never done this type of work before I had covered all aspects of it in one way or another and felt confident that with Michael’s help we would make good hosts.
