The Mango Tree is painted the colour of mango flesh and brightens up the row of quite tired looking shops on Davyhulme Road in Stretford. This shop unit has changed hands more times than I can remember but I have a positive feeling about the longevity of The Mango tree, and I like its name. This is a speedy, have your order ready on the counter kind of place with creative management who know exactly what the sandwich shop industry needs. There are the usual filling favourites for those who do not like change, feta cheese and vegetarian mediterranean salad sandwiches for the more adventurous. The Mango Tree is multi-talented and also makes a mean chilli, home made pies and hand crafted cakes for all occasions. I like a place that sells breakfasts all day and the little sign in the window which states that you can takeaway cereal, milk, bowl and spoon for £1 only had me in stitches as I remember Peter Howarth, a boy I went to school with driving his Mum mad and costing her a fortune. He would leave the house munching his cornflakes, complete with china bowl and spoon. Images of suit clad 40 year old business men doing the same, with their mums yelling, rolling pins in the air behind them, put a smile on my face all day.
