It was a nice surprise to discover the fox in an area you would expect to find chains and swankier bars, as its a proper old pub. 17th century I think. The main pub is ancient but it’s recently had a new modern extension added to the side which has attracted a younger clientele much to the locals dislike by all accounts! There was a good selection of ales and ciders and drinks were reasonably priced for this part of London. We were there on a Saturday night and it was rammed and they had a guy singing and playing guitar which was great. I really enjoyed my night and had a good old boogie too!

My sister lives in the neighborhood and this was my first stop for food after I had arrived in the UK. We walked right on over and got a small table near the entrance. My sister’s boyfriend waited at the table while we walked over to the bar and ordered some pints. Once back at the table, we went over the menus and I went with the Angus burger with brie & chips, my sister got the sausage plate and her bf got I believe a stew of some kind. Once the food came out, my order was on a large slab of wood(kinda cool) and so did my sister’s food. The burger was really really good and the chips were cooked perfectly. My sister’s sausage dinner was quite ridiculous… just look at the picture I posted, haha. Prices are pretty fair, too. I also found out this is the oldest pub in the area, it used to sit on the main road that led to central London hundreds of years ago. When I’m back to visit my sister, I’d love to come back to The Fox and have a pint and a burger again.

This pub is actually a lot larger than it might look from the outside courtesy of a side extension, with a handy courtyard garden at the back. It’s a decent spot for a drink and attracts a full spectrum of clientele. It was actually a bit rowdy on the Saturday night I was in there(just to be clear, it wasn’t me!), but in a reasonably good natured way. It does however lack a little of the warmth of atmosphere that seems to come more naturally to some of its competition in the area.

Wonderful Old 17th century inn with a lot of character. They serve a wonderful selection of local ales and drinks which can change quite frequently. They also have pub grub, which is reasonably priced and of good, but not excellent quality — just like pubs should be! They also have a wonderful, quiet and secret beer garden which is perfect in the summer. This pub has a function room and frequently hold events such as live music, craft or vintage fairs and knitting meet-ups.

The Fox is an old place but after being recently refurbished and under new management I think it’s improved, a little. I very rarely went to The Fox before the refurbishment because it was full of old men staring at you like a young tumour in their neighbourhood as you walk in. Now, it feels more welcome. It’s cheaper too. Their cheapest beer is just under the £3 mark and their premium stuff won’t hurt your wallet as much as some other pubs in the area. The best bit, by far, is that they’re open until 1am on the weekends. I ust hope this doesn’t attract the chavs because the crowd in here is good. Pros: — Cheap-ish(actually, ‘reasonable’ describes it better) — Open late on the weekends. — Friendly staff and punters. Cons: — No character(I’m sure this’ll improve with a little time) — It was really cold. — Doesn’t take card(cash point across the road though)

The Fox is a traditional real ale pub — small and cosy. It is, according to paintwork along the side, a 17th Century pub, and it looks it. It could rather do with a refurb. The clientèle are middle-aged, by and large. The pub is small, though they attempt to make it look bigger with the judicious use of mirrors. They have a big telly showing Sentanta Sport on the wall — I actually found this quite distracting, as the seats in that area are a bit like school seating — in rows, so you find yourself facing the telly. They serve Twickenham ales. I had a truly excellent pint of Naked Lady(always a fun beer to order in a pub). The choice of lagers is more limited, though there IS a choice(Stella, Carling). This is not the place to visit, however for cocktails. The bar dude was friendly enough, though not especially notable(neither especially welcoming, nor surly). This is a very traditional British pub. If you’re after an ‘event’, this isn’t the place to be. If you’d like a quiet pint of ale, then a visit to the Fox might well be in order.
