The Fox Inn

I think I will have to give The Fox a mixed review, though on the positive side. A few summers ago I had a wonderful meal of rabbit which was delicious and the service excellent. Earlier this year perhaps late January I visited with a large group of about 16 people. With this number of people we found the service to be slow and when one couple had concerns about the spicyness of a meal the waitress seemed a bit inexperienced in dealing with disappointed customers and didn’t take the attitude of the customer is always right i.e. no smile or apology and looked a bit miserable generally. Despite this one off, I would definitely go back as it is a great location and food is tasty.

We have just visited for their Sunday night Steak Special — it was excellent value. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

I went here with my family as I had heard good things — granted they were from my parents, who by any standards have poor taste in food!
The food was all deep fried, they had ran out of straws so my 2 year old had to drink out of a glass, they had ran out tomatoe ketchup (how that is possilbe for a pub/​restaurant is beyond me) and the wine list consited of 4 varieties one of which was liframilch… really?
I had to send my steak back as I asked for it medium/​rare and it came well done, when it did come back (after the rest of my family had finished eating) it was medium but had not been rested and their was grease and blood all over the plate, the stilton cheese still had the rind on and the onion rings were so soggy they stuck to the meat.
Honestly unless you like ham, chips and overcooked eggs with nasty German wine to wash it down with I would avoid.

I have been here to eat on a number of occasions and the food has always been to a very good standard, served in good time and with a good range of dishes on the menu. There is always a friendly, comfortable atmosphere in the bar and restaurant, and the staff normally do whatever they can to make sure you have what you need.
Also, i think that the wine list provides something for all tastes with dry, medium and sweet options (some people like Liebfraumilch!)
All i can say is that i am very suprised that you had a bad experience here as it is very rare to hear such bad reviews about the Fox.

If you want a great value for money meal then this is the place to come. The food is outstanding and service is friendly and pretty quick. I would recommend this place to anyone.
