Navigator The Public House

Visiting Ware for the evening we were getting hungry and we wanted a quick meal and somewhere with a bit of atmosphere. After walking from one end of the high street to the other apart from being the only restaurant open (it was early) we decided to call in at the Navigator. It was busy, which is always a good sign. There was a good selection on the menu and every body seemed to be enjoying their food. Which did turn out to be good. It might not have been freshly made, but it was good. There is a beer garden running along the river side which would make this an ideal venue perfect for those summer afternoons, they also do BBQ lunches and a wide range of bar food.

We chose The Navigator primarily as a place to watch the footy. For this, it’s about the best there is to be found in Ware, there are screens dotted all around the place, so wherever you are you will be able to see the game — there is also a big screen, but it is a poor projection, directly opposite a window and out of focus, so not so good.
The pub as a whole is very big, taking up a corner plot next to a mini-​roundabout, with lots of both standing room and comfortable seating. Much of the seating is at dining tables too, and the food is pretty good and reasonably priced — at least myself and my fellow Hammer enjoyed it. The staff are OK, and even for a pub as big as this it seems to have it’s regular punters. An unfortunate breed of regular here though, is youngsters. I don’t say that as a miserable old man talking about 30 somethings. I say that as a 30 something talking about teens at the lower end of the scale. They are clearly too young to be drinking in a pub and it’s a shame that the management turn a blind eye to it — the day that we were in there there were a large group being particularly annoying whilst under the influence.
The range of beers available is the normal stuff, nothing much of mention.
On a nice day you can wander outside to sit on their patio area that stands on the bank next to the River Lea. It’s a pleasant place to while away a couple of hours.
Overall, you can make this pub pretty much what you want it to be, so for that it’s one of the more flexible in Ware and makes a change from The Vine for me!
