Specialties
The Swan and Talbot has been an Inn for over 400 years. Recently under going a full renovation we now offer a perfect destination for both drinking and dining in the centre of Wetherby.
We pride ourselves on our locally sourced seasonal lunch and evening menus along with extensive drinks list. Whether it’s a quick lunch time bite or an evening celebratory meal we can cater for all occasions.
We can also offer overnight accommodation in one of our four letting rooms.
Large parties are welcome and we can cater for birthday parties, anniversaries, race day events, christenings and wakes.
History
Established in 1611.
A pub for more than 400 years, The Swan and Talbot in Wetherby was once a posting inn on the Great North Road.
Originally named the Dog and Swan, the pub was, until 1611, allowed to bear the coat of arms of the Swann family. The Swann family lived at Askham Manor in nearby Askham Richard.
The ‘dog’ was a talbot hound — an extinct type of hunting dog whose closest modern day descendant is the beagle — and the pub’s name was changed to The Swan and Talbot.
