Another great name for my reviews for today! Before anyone gets too excited about the name and the exact nature of this shop’s business, the large South African flag on the shop sign gives the clue that it’s a food shop selling South African food. It’s a little shop in the corner of the District Line concourse in Wimbledon station. As the proprieter said to me, it’s 100% South African, even down to the staff working there. There is a selection of South African foodstuffs but the main attraction for me is in the cooked food and strips of dried meat hanging up. They do a selection of cooked meats in rolls. I’ve enjoyed the broerwors sausage with chilli sauce. So much more flavour than the Burger King across the road. The grilled steak also smelt mighty inviting. My other little treat is usually some biltong, which comes in a varietty of flavours though I usually stick with original, or some droewors. I’ve spied some ostrich, which may be next on the hit list. The only regret is that the store is only accessible once you pass through the ticket barriers.

I absolutely love this place, it reminds me of a time in my life back home. The people working in this specific store is always friendly and willing to help, which is what customer service is all about. Their food on the go is great and there is always people in that little store on the platform. I tend to always spend way more than what I wanted to, because everything is so damn good. Their prices is definately in line with the market and their goods is never out of date like some other South African shops. Try their droewors and biltong, it is to die for!

OK it is a tiny cafè on a tube platform and it does sell irrelevant South African nick-knacks But, you have not lived until you’ve tried their footlong ‘boerewors’ rolls. A coarsely ground beef sausage, generously flavoured with herbs and spices on a roll, smothered in onions with chutney and ketchup. Give the SA nonsense a skip and give these a try!
