The Wheatsheaf Inn

Lovely olde worlde pub with a good selection of proper beers and a restaurant in the attached converted barn. I come here almost every time I visit my uncle, who lives locally, and I have never been disappointed. There’s a fixed price menu, an a là carte menu, and half a dozen specials, so there are plenty of interesting choices. I can’t speak for the wine selection, but if it’s as good as the food I’m sure it’s more than satisfactory.

Very good pub grub, actually more straying into restaurant quality food. Nice surroundings, good sized car park and very well kept beers. Hard to beat as as country pub.

Greetings from the Wirral countryside! Where the air is clean, the sheep are plentiful and pubs like the Wheatsheaf actually feel halfway authentic. Well, you can’t get more authentic than a thatched roof and a bunch of friendly locals now can you? Sigh, even at the tender age of 26 I’m thinking this is the sort of place I could happily retire.
In wintertime I imagine this pub would feel especially cosy, with a roaring fire and snug little corners. The drink prices are pretty normal really, rather reasonable and food-​wise it actually has an award-​winning chef at the helm. The restaurant is kind of separate but it’s still perfectly acceptable to grab a few beverages and take them through with you. There’s plenty of choice and everyone is well catered for, including vegetarians, plus the desserts are really something else and everything is truly homemade. Lunchtime special offers also come much appreciated.

Whilst harumscarum has above revued the Wheatsheaf Pub, the adjoining separate restaurant (The Cowshed) is something else. It is an excellent restaurant serving quality food under the supervision of award winning Chef Emma Wombwell.
Having not been for a few years (and only three miles from home in Heswall), we had a family dinner for five last night, nearly all choosing different items at each course, and all were excellent. My own meal consisted of Smoked Haddock fish cakes, served with a light tangy mayonnaise. For main I had something you rarely see on menus these days, Veal Escalopes, done in a creamy sauce with chives and baby tomatoes. Then classic Crème Brulee, as good as anything I have had .
There was a ‘Table d’Hote’ fixed price meal of the day with ¾ choices, in addition to the regular ‘à la Carte’
The service was welcoming, efficient and attentive. No problem in catering for special needs of my elderly mother in law.
I am annoyed we hadn’t been back there earlier — it certainly takes over from Heswall ‘Gusto’ as my favourite restauarant in the area.
The bill was £139 including a bottle of wine at £18.50 and some additional drinks.
We will be back and I heartily recommend it to you

This is a nice little pub in the heart of the countryside of the Wirral. It has a thatched roof and is popular with the local people. They do serve food in there but unsure of the times that they serve. You really feel like you are in the country in this pub, it is very quaint and has a lovely cosy feeling to it especially in the winter. Not that easy to get to if you need to get a bus but popular with cyclists and walkers as there are a few routes around this area. Standard priced drinks
