The Sovereigns

I’ve eaten here several times with friends and family and we’ve never been disappointed. The atmosphere is nice and at times quite lively. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is good substantial and tasty and often they have good meal deals you can take advantage of if you’re in at the right time with a friend. I’m not much of a drinker, but they seem to have a very good selection of beers.

The ales are excellent, and the food is good for the price. Ian the landlord is a trained chef, and does the tasting notes for his (mainly scottish) BEERS.
They had a whisky event in there recently too.

Large pub with a really good selection of real ales (they do ale festivals from time to time too). There is a pub area to the left as you go in but also another room that looks a bit more like a restaurant, down the stairs to your right (they have curry nights and grill nights apparantly).
It’s the kind of pub that looks like it could be even nicer in the summer. There is a beer garden and patio and the aforementioned restaurant area looked very bright in the winter time so is probably positively dazzling come summertimealthough I guess it could become a bit of a greenhouse. could go either way.

The Sovereign is an award winning local pub, situated just outside the centre of town. Despite the surrounding location of the place, the Sovereign itself is an attractive place, recently refurbished to include a covered terrace outside for smokers and those who wish to sit outside and enjoy the warmer weather in the summer.
Inside, the pub is welcoming and well decorated, with a mixture of comfortable sofas, chairs and tables. The staff are friendly and helpful. The pub offers a range of food, from snacks to more substantial lunches and evening meals, and a wide range of drinks. It’s a very casual and pleasant atmosphere to be within, and is a good place to go both during at lunchtimes, and in the evening.
