This hotel was originally built as a private home and also as a manor house. It was occupied by Lord and Lady Stern and frequented by many a well known name in the past. We use the carvery occasionally but yesterday was there for an absolute fantastic wedding bash. Faultlesscannot praise the organisation, staff and management of the occasion enough. Zoe and Ryan were well pleased, as were we all. Staff members Grace and Harry were outstandingThank you for my constant top-ups!!! The wine was just the job

Fantastic old building but very dark inside which disguises the food served up in the carvery. The meat is distressed, or at least the poor animal must have been at slaughter. Very stringy and tough, and although I like my meat cooked rare… raw is just too much. Vegetables are bland and nothing inspiring that tempts the tastebuds. We gave it a try and voted with our feet. We will not be heading in the direction of the Highdown again.

This is a beautiful old building and a great place to pop in for a drink if you’re driving back from Littlehampton or Southampton and fancy a break. The interior and the gardens are breathtaking and the staff really helpful which begs this one massive question: WHYDOESITONLYSERVE A CARVERYFORFOOD??? This place should have Raymond Blanc in the kitchen serving cuisine that would have Jay Rayner singing at the top of his voice but no, its chosen to take that safe, un-imaginative path of the carvery. I’m sure its good and at £5 you can’t grumble but it just doesn’t belong in a place like this. Great place to have a sit outside and enjoy a few drinks(the wine list is great) and maybe one day they’ll employ a chef.

I love this spot, lovely friendly people serving delicious food. The lemon meringue is a winner. Can’t beat a walk on Highdown Hill with the dog and then popping in for a tea and a bite to eat after. A bowl of water for the dog makes it. Seating outside as well as inside. Shame they couldn’t knock down the hotel to improve the view.
