While Monks Cross has a rather impressive array of stores on its roster, there is something about it that I just don’t like. The stores are all quite small and aren’t really fit for purpose. There is a massive Asda Supercentre at one end, a new Primark in the middle and a large Debenhams at the other end. I would like this but it comes across as feeling a bit cheap and uninspiring. The city centre stores are much better and usually are bigger too. The New Look is small, The H&M is miniature and the BHS I haven’t found an end to yet. The Primark wasn’t open on my last visit but it would be opening the day after. The whole place could do with a bit of a shake-up if it wants to be the next Vangarde. Vangarde is tiny but it is still better than this dump of metal sheds.

Pretty good out of town retail park with plenty of brands, an asda and sainsburys and pizza hut, Starbucks and mcdonalds to eat in. Plenty of sales when we went and some of the shops carry different stock than those in the city centre. With the exception of tk maxx this isn’t a factory outlet. Bargains to be had tho!

Monks Cross is quite a good way to pass the afternoon if you can find a parking space — despite a large number of parking spaces, it’s generally packed to bursting point at the weekends. Shops include Next, BHS, Monsoon, HMV and Marks & Spencer. Supermarkets are Asda, Sainsbury and now Aldi. Food is available from Pizza Hut, McDonalds & Starbucks amongst others. Sainsbury and Asda also operate petrol stations. If you’re after a bargain, check out TK Maxx or The Range just up Jockey Lane. There’s also Polar Ford, Waterworld and a karting track in the vicinity.

A new GAME store and Aldi are the most recent additions to Monks Cross Shopping Park. This place is always busy especially on the run up to Christmas. The shops are open until 8 pm on week nights making perfect for grabbing presents after a days work. There are tons of shops to have a look round, really is a case of something for every one, starting at one end we have a large Asda supermarket, Travel Agents, HMV, Mama’s and Papa’s, Laura Ashley, Monsoon, Sports Direct, M&S(& a separate M&S Food), Boots, Next, Outfit, WH Smiths, Topshop/Topman, Miss Selfridge, River Island, Evans, Blacks, BHS Home, New Look, Clarks, Clintons and coming soon a new decent sized Debenhams store. There is also a Starbucks, McDonalds and Pizza Hut if you want to grab a bite to eat. There are a couple of Satelite sites to the shopping park with a few more stores such as Argos, TK Maxx, Sainsbusrys, Aldi, Carphone Warehouse, American Golf & Sleepmasters.

I’ve lived in York for around 15 years now and I remember wondering around Monk Cross when I first arrived, it was a little different then however — it was just fields! Now it’s a Huge shopping centre that boasts 3 Supermarkets, Asda, Sainsburys and the most recent addition, Aldi. So you’re really spoilt for choice when deciding where to do your weekly shop. Monks Cross really has everything you need, from PC world to Marks and Spencer(x2, one clothes, one food) There’s a clintons and WHSmiths for all your stationary needs. Newlook, River Island, Top Shop, Miss Selfridges, Next, Monsoon and clarks so you can do some serious damage if you fancy some clothes shopping and lets face it, that’s us girls sorted so for the guys there’s blacks, and sports soccer and HMV! For expectant parents there’s a Mamas and Papas store and for Jet setters there’s even a travel agent! Just across the road from the main shopping area of Monks cross there’s a TK max and an Argos There really is everything you might need at monks cross as well as food outlets(Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut and Starbucks) and ample parking.
