History

Established in 1966.

Family owned steakhouse with delicious food and great service. Famous for hot rolls, soup and salad bar, and chicken fried steak !

Towne Crier Steakhouse opened for business on February 18, 1966 and was established by Neil Fry. The highest priced steak dinner was priced at $ 1.39! Dwight Aston, started work in 1977 and took over as managing partner in 1979. Dwight became the face of Towne Crier that many Abilenians and ACU students grew up working for and visiting with on a regular basis when they needed their chop’t steak or chicken fried steak fix. In the late 1980’s and early 90’s Rhonda Williams worked at Towne Crier as a waitress. She always had a dream to one day own the restaurant and in November of 2015, just a few month’s shy of the restaurant’s 50th anniversary, she bought the restaurant and is the current owner today!
