Abington Animal Hospital

I have been coming here for over 13 years, with my first and now second Bulldog and would never consider going anywhere else. During this time I moved to the North Shore, and despite the distance they are still my one and only choice for care.
They treat not only your pet, but you as family and really care about the well being of your animal. From the reception staff, to the wonderful techs and vets all the way up to Dr Jack you receive top notch care. They are always extremely compassionate and share their vast knowledge in a way you can understand.
They are also compassionate beyond measure and this was proven once again when I had to help my dog pass on as they made it as peaceful and loving for both of us as it could be.
In addition to the care, they are also very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend them in a minute to anyone looking for top notch veterinary care

We’ve been taking our dog here for the past 10 years and they are great.
The staff behind the desk were very helpful, the people waiting with their pets were really friendly and understanding of our dog-​phobic dog, and the medical staff are very knowledgeable and great people.
I would recommend this place to anyone vs. that corporate chain one.

Another veterinarian gave me the number to this place was a little skeptical bringing my cat JJ here because I read the reviews. but he was very sick Unilocaling and vomiting bile and fibers from a broomstick. we arrived @ 545pm got seen at 6.00pm by John explained my cats situation he was very nice and thorough he explained to me that jj was very sick and gave him an IV he then told me that they don’t keep pets overnight but he wanted jj to stay so he can stay hooked up to the IV and he can stay at the vet overnight and I pick him up the next day. i didn’t feel comfortable leaving him there alone until the staff return in the morning but it was a very nice suggestion And then told me he needed a diabetes test (which he waived the fee for this and the IV) i told him my financial situation and he gave me 2 options which was to try the meds he will prescribe and monitor my cat for two days or if he doesn’t get any better it’s gonna get more costly for test and xrays. i left paying $ 95.00 for the exam 2 meds and 4 cans of cat food. I am very proud to say today my cat was doing mugh Better no vomiting or Unilocaling around the house. i just wanna say thank you to all the staff. and especially John he couldn’t pin point exactly what was wrong with JJ but by the grace of God he pulled through I would definately Return and recommend this place to others and the prices are very affordable compared to other places this place is Heaven sent for people on a budget with pets!

I have been bring my animals here for ten plus years. The doctors are very knowledgable and the prices are reasonable. The wait time is a little long but it is to be expected because they spend the time to work with each patient in the room. We did have a problem with one of the doctors telling us that our dog had a tumor and need to be put to sleep because she was is pain

I brought my ball python here when she was showing signs of a respiratory infection. I didn’t choose to bring her here — I didn’t even know Dr. Curtin saw exotics. I was planning on taking her somewhere else. But I didn’t have access to my regular vet and my mom insisted it would be fine.
It was not fine. I was really put off by the service I got here. First of all, the wait to be seen was over an hour. Over an hour of a crowded waiting room with people who had little control of their dogs trying to eat my snake. I got no apology for the wait time. Secondly, the techs walking back and forth all had something rude to say about my snake. They would walk by and say, «ew! I hate snakes!!» What in your right mind would make you think it’s okay? It was incredibly inappropriate! And I don’t know if there was just no techs on willing to handle snakes, but I ended up having to be the one to hold her for the exam, which I thought was weird too.
The treatment he offered did help, but I can’t get past the way his staff treated my pet.

I love this place. After going to bridgewater when my puppy was sick i took my puppy here they did blood work gave him fluids and it wasn’t 600 bucks which is what bridgewater wanted to charge… For blood tests not mention fluids were 156 at bridgwater… I took my puppy back to Abington after the first visit they gave me a bag of fluids so i could administer at home they showed me how to do it and i bought him some wet food because he was having difficulty eating because he was sick. The drs there are amazing as well as the receptionists are so helpful… Today my puppy is eating on his own drinking his water on his own and is 100 times better. All i have to say is the prices are affordable and the staff actually care about the animals unlike Bridgewater where its all about the money. I will always take my dog here… Love this place and they are extremely busy but are willing to accommodate you.

I came in to get a vaccine for my dog. The total time it took to actually get the vaccine was under a minute. The time I waited in the waiting room was over an hour. Other dogs that checked in half hour after my dog were getting called in before mine. At one point I went up to the desk to make sure that my dog was on the list to be seen and she told me they had other «emergency» situations. I have compassion for animals but the vaccine took UNDER A MINUTE, even if an animal has an emergency it just doesn’t seem acceptable/​justifiable that I had to wait a whole hour. And when I complained to the desk she obviously did not care and didn’t even apologize about it. The literally least you can do is apologize. I will not bring my dog back here because today was just such a waste of time. I never leave bad reviews, I work in customer service and I know how much it can suck to deal with complaining customers but they really need to get their shit together here because it’s so obviously an unorganized mess.

Update: They were extremely competent and considerate when my dog died. I did bring him to a couple of other places and while I spent less time waiting at those place, they tried to guilt me into expensive treatments that would only have prolonged his life by perhaps a few weeks, and really, prolonged his suffering. I now feel that in the Abington/​Brockton area, this place is the more compassionate care for both you and your pet at a reasonable price. That makes it worth the longer waiting times and the dingy-​looking facility.

Ive been here a few times because the prices aren’t too bad but, I think I will just have to start paying more money. One woman at the front desk is so rude, Id like to jump over the counter and slap her. It is everyone she is rude to and it is always. I dont know why they keep her. The vets have helped my pets but the last pet I had, the vet told me I need to bring it back to the adoption center because I got a bad one, it only had a cold. I got medicine for my cat and he was fine in a week. Imagine if I took her advice. He has been happy and healthy for 2 years now. I bring this up now because I just adpoted another cat and was looking at reviews of other vets to take him to and I see these reviews and they don’t surprise me. I wanted to tell my story too.

Dr Curtin and his staff have always gone above and beyond in times of emergency. They aren’t like the chain hospitals trying to take advantage of people under stress. They have always taken great care of my critters over the past 15 years.

Receptionist Donna was very rude. Couldn’t find my account and refused to let me bring in my sick cat because I wasn’t already a client? Very rude, would not recommend them at all.

While i held my dieing ferret and spoke to the doctor of how to put him to sleep, the woman doctor told me she would have to bring him to another room and stick the needle directly into his heart (due to his tiny size) she wouldn’t be able find a vein to use. I immediatly was distraught and loudly sobbing over the thought of what was going to happen to my little buddy. after a few minutes another doctor walked though and asked what was going on, he showed her a vein on my ferrets leg to use and she calmly proceeded then left me alone with my passed on family member.

If possible I would give 0 stars. Completely displeased with not only the care but the lack of professional behavior. Waiting area is set up for potential disasters between dogs. Needless to say I switched vets and brought all 4 of my dogs elsewhere. Cheap prices are their only benefit. However, I don’t mind spending the extra money for quality care. Definitely do not recommend.

When I got my puppy I went to another local vet first. There facility was very clean and really nice. The vet and tech however, were not as nice. They weren’t rude, they just didn’t take the time to talk to me about my new puppy. I was new to owning a puppy and although I did research I wanted to make sure what I thought I should be doing (for shots, and feeding) based on my research was what my vet recommended as well. They raced through my appointment. I left not knowing when I should return for his next shot or even what they gave him at that appointment.
A friend then said she takes her dog to AAH and I said I’d give them a try. I knew my little guy needed at least 4 more shots (2 of 1 kind, 2 of another) anyways and it can’t hurt to take him to another facility for those and get an idea about the staff. I never went back to the other vet. When I went into AAH the vet (I see a woman, Amanda) was soooo amazing. She talked to me, and didn’t race through my appointment or the information she was telling me about my puppy. I left there knowing exactly what he needed for future shots etc. She answered all my questions, and I never once felt like I was being pushed out the door (like I did at the other facility). I also like that they don’t push products or services on you. She told me of other vaccines available (of which there were a few but told me the most common given where we lived) and gave me websites to research the vaccine and determine whether or not I felt it would be something that was necessary for my dog. I had to even bring him in when he was an bladder infection and even then she told me they could run blood tests if I wanted to make sure there was nothing else going on and how much it cost to do so. But it wasn’t a necessary, it was clear from a pee sample what was wrong and he wasn’t acting weird so I didn’t do it. No doubt any where else would order unnecessary tests to spike your cost of the appointment. She is absolutely the reason I go back there.
The waiting area may not be the cleanest (but it’s a vet, and there’s animals going through there constantly, whatever). The front desk staff are not the friendliest people. And yes you’re guaranteed to wait even when you have an appointment. But the vet and techs there really are worth it. Plus, you if you had just waited awhile to see your vet, you bet your going to want to make sure they focus their time on you and not push you out the door. They really care about your pet and you.
Like I said I went to another place not too far away with a clean waiting area, no wait, and the vet and tech were just not what I wanted for my pet. Plus, AAH has the best prices around. You won’t find cheaper. For me, that didn’t really matter, I wanted to make sure I trusted my vet, but it was def an added bonus. I would recommend you bring your pets here if you love them as much as I love my dog!

We’ve always had pleasurable experiences in dealing with Dr. Jack Curtin and his staff. Yes, the building is older and it is certainly a no-​frills kind of place. We take both our cats to Abington Animal Hospital and Dr. Curtin is always kind both to us and our cats. Dr. Curtin isn’t in it for the money; he loves all animals of every type and makes it extremely clear. One of our cats seems to constantly have a bout of conjunctivitis and Dr. Curtin prescribed us medicine for her so we can treat her as-​needed rather than going back and forth to the vet.
The front staff is pleasant, both in person and on the phone, but it is clear they are overwhelmed. Appointments are booked to the minute, and sometimes overbooked. But the service and the price can’t be beat.

I have been bringing my cat and two dogs here for a few years now. Dr. Jack Curtin himself gets 5 stars. I think he’s great. He never pushes unnecessary tests, he is caring and compassionate and I appreciate that will spend as much time with a patient as he needs.
On the flip side, you will wait. I do feel like they over schedule which leads to some of the back up. You never know what you are going to get when you call to make an appointment or check in at the desk, sometimes the girls are friendly, sometimes they act like they have been stuck on the tarmac at Logan airport for 6 hours on Thanksgiving.
I go since its close to home, they aren’t going to charge me an arm and a leg, and I won’t go home convinced that my dog needs liposuction and medication for depression.
My last trip was for vaccinations; Last year, my beagle had a allergic reaction to one of the vaccinations, since we were unsure of which one it was, Dr. Curtain gave her the vaccinations along with some dog version of benedryl and gave me his cell phone # in case anything happened overnight. I think I can overlook the wait time.

We have been coming here for years with our crew — 2 dogs and 2 cats. Dr Curtin and the rest of the staff are really caring and don’t push unnecessay expensive tests. We used to go to VCA in Weymouth and it always cost a fortune with all the blood work they would order. Here they use a very practical and economical approach to the care of my pets. My one complaint is be prepared to wait, they do spend a lot of time with you and your pet and they tend to get backed up. And of course if an emergency comes in it wil be taken over a routine visit. But I know going in I’ll have to wait so I book on a day and time that is ok for me and it’s an opportunity to chat with other pet owners.
