I went to local Jiffy Lube franchises for oil changes at around 67k and 74k miles. Both times they told me I was supposed to have had my transmission fluid changed at 60k miles and that it was very dirty — implying that it looks like it wasn’t done and I should definitely get it done. I had my 60k mile service done at the dealership, so the transmission fluid should have been changed then so I was suspicious, of course. Friends of mine know the owner of Joey’s so I figured I’d try it out. I set up my service appointment for an oil change, explained my concern regarding the transmission fluid, also expressed some concern regarding my timing belt.
He looked at both during the appointment and told me that the fluid definitely wasn’t dirty enough to worry about changing yet; my timing belt looked fine and based on the mileage was early for a change anyway. He recommended that the next time I get my oil changed — if I went to a different garage — I ask them to look at the rear brakes. They were still okay but were getting low so in the future I’d want to keep an eye on their levels.
I really appreciated the honesty regarding the fluid, and the heads-​up regarding the brakes. Joey’s is out of the way for me, but I’ll be giving him my business in the future.

Showed up with no appointment and a nail in my tire. Offered to look it right away. Checked it out immediately and lucky for me it was only a small nail and no hole! Fast friendly service nonetheless!
