Macchia Wines

I heard all the great accolades about the owners and their kids and how involved they are, blah, blah, blah. So… I purchased some wine from the winery with delivery for the following day. A week later I hadn’t heard from anyone and no wine was delivered. Finally I contact UPS and they say no delivery had taken place.
I contact the winery and they tell me they decided to hold the order as it had been hot in Sacramento. No one bothered to call me about a delay and the wine I purchased was to be a gift to one of my friends for the 4^th holiday. They did not offer a compromise, waive the shipping cost, give a bottle wine… nothing.
The incompetence of the winery is astonishing and their failure to contact customers when shipments are delayed is totally unacceptable.
Do not expect your wine to be delivered timely or at all.

Love their wines! Each time I have visited the staff has been very friendly. So is the dog that was there. Can’t wait to go back!

My first time visiting. The wines are just ok (for me the wine is about a 3 stars); however I love the atmosphere around and the settings they created for their winery. Our group end up staying here a while snacking and drinking a bottle of their white wine.
One note: the public shared restrooms in the back are a little laughable. The mirror was mounted too high, especially for a 5’1“er w/​a 4″ heels!!!

Lots of alcohol-​amped wines. I found the 16%+ ABV offerings to be too much for my tastes — but obviously there are those who like that style. Moderately priced wines. Many types (about 10) currently available for tasting for a small fee.

Started off my wine tasting here at Macchia and it was by far the best winery I visited that day. All their wines were so exceptional. The Devious & Flirtatious were my 2 favorites so glad I am able to get this wine shipped to my home.

I have visited the winery on numerous of occasions… and like all things, some times where better than others. however after the experience I had recently during wine & chocolate weekend, I will NEVER go back. The lack of professionalism and frankly utter rudeness of certain members of the staff still have me reeling. It is very unfortunate that in this day and age. the color of someones skin makes you privy to things that you HOPED no longer existed. but unfortunately still do. I am extremely saddened by my recent experience. and since the lack of TOTAL DISREGARD I was given when I asked to speak with the manager to voice my distaste, there is no turning back. I am appalled at how I was treated and it makes me truly regret ever patronizing here and wine tasting and definitely buying bottles of previously, but that is ok, I belong to several other wine clubs and am treated superbly! I will take my money elsewhere. where my hard earned dollar where the color of my skin is not an issue… unfortunately Macchia is not one of them.

I first tasted their wine over the summer during a fundraiser in Sacramento. A lot of wineries from Lodi was pouring that day and I was amazed with their Sangiovese! I kept their card and went up to Amador to go to Vino Noceto. They brought up Macchia and instantly knew that I had to visit their winery.
The day we went to their winery, they were having a party for wine members. We decided to pay the cover to get in and tried about 20 of their wines. We extremely enjoyed almost every single wine that they had! We enjoyed it soo much that we became a wine a member. We didn’t anticipate to join so fast, but it gives us reasons to come back when we have to pick up our wine. Their wine does not last long in our house. We will be returning next week to get some more. Lodi is the up and coming! Who knew they had so many wineries out in Lodi???

My wife and I have been wine club members at Macchia for years. They have so many fabulous wines. We particularly enjoy their Zinfandel and Sangiovese. It’s a fun wine club to be a member of and they often have great deals on wine for their members.

Rob was our wine steward today & he made it a great experience. Described the wines thoroughly, he knows his stuff! Enjoyed all the varieties, and will consider their wine club also. Cheers!

One of our favorites in Lodi. Many awarding winning wines, including fabulous Zinfandels and Barberas that have been recognized as top Barberas produced outside of Italy. Great hospitality room, friendly staff, beautiful grounds — plus bocci ball court — for lounging, picnics, or live music. Became a wine club member upon my first visit years ago — the wine club & special wine club events are outstanding. Highly recommend a visit if you’re in Lodi. Be sure to get on their mailing list so you can join the many fun events Macchia hosts throughout the year.

Last weekend was my very first trip to Lodi to go wine tasting. Friends had told me how awesome the wineries were down there, but just never found the time to make the trip. I’m big on red wines, and Lodi is supposed to be the perfect climate for reds, especially Zins. Macchia had a fun vibe to it that none of the neighboring wineries really had. It’s in an old craftsman type house– super funky and cute. The first thing that made me want to come back were the staff– they were super excited to talk about the wine with you and let you roam around while they brought the tastings to you. There’s a reason why they’re so confident in their wine– it’s heaven to your taste buds! There wasn’t one wine I tried that I didn’t love! In the end it was challenging to choose just one to take home (I was on a tight budget) but I ended up choosing Amorous. By the way, they have great names for their wines!

My favorite old vine zin! They have great events there too. This weekend was a release party, everyone got to try all the new stuff. pizza was on hand as well as a live band and a free photo booth. lots of people hanging around having a good time. The weather was perfect as well.

The Flirtatous Wine is amazing!!! We come here a lot for wine tasting! We enjoy pretty much all the wine, and always leave with a few bottles. You can’t find this wine anywhere, so really have to come out to Lodi and try it. The patio in the back is newly renovated and a great spot to relax with Friends.

We cam here during wine and chocolate weekend. The grounds are very big and nice. They have lots of outside seating and a beautiful outdoor patio with fire pits and fireplaces. They have all red wines, which were very tasty. The only reason why I didn’t give this place a five is that SOME of the staff were too serious. I like to feel welcomed at a winery especially if you want the clients to come back. We will come back to this place, but hope to see more smiles. :)

No room at the small bar so we stood in the middle of the room waiting to be noticed. Young girl flitted past after several minutes and as she passed she said «two for tasting?» And then disappeared. Um… what?
Then a man behind the bar got my attention and asked if we were being helped. «No.» I said. He apologized and I said «well, there’s no room at the bar.» He said «I’ll bring it out to you.» (Why didn’t you just do that in the first place??) Just then a space opened and we were able to stand at the bar. He poured one tasting and disappeared.
That’s when we started to pay closer attention. The place was like a raucous sports bar. The employees were bantering so much with each other that the customers were simply an afterthought. When I asked where the spit bucket was I was directed to an out-​of-​the-​way corner next to the bar at about waist height where a red bucket was perched on a stool. All those people at the bar we’re swallowing every sip. What?
Jason, the tasting room manager, is like a frat boy let loose in a liquor cabinet. He’s the manager? He didn’t make eye contact and has nothing to say about any of the wines.
There was a woman furiously wrapping bottles in tissue and dropping them into boxes on the floor. With every step, a clunk from her cha cha heels. With every wrapped bottle, a thunk on the floor. What a crazy, loud, chaotic mess!
I couldn’t wait to get out of there. It’s not like I’m a prude, but I expect these kinds of experiences to be more sophisticated. I’ve been out of college for about 30 years, and I wasn’t interested in going back in time when I stepped into Macchia’s tasting room.
There are more than 60 wineries in Lodi. We won’t be going back to Macchia.

The short: Came in for a wine tasting and although it happened it required a lot of work.
The long: Family came into town and just had to go wine tasting at the vineyards so away we went. This particular vineyard was one we were specifically referred to so we had high hopes. When we drove up there was a good sized lot with plenty of cars in it so that looked to be a good sign. The grounds themselves were nice and the tasting room is inside a farm house. Inside the room there are all kinds of nick knacks for sale that are crammed into the tiny space. I thought I came to drink wine not to buy jewelry, clothing, and etc?! The room itself has a large «L» shaped bar that was staffed with about 5 people. There was a pretty good crowd in the room and they were all up on the bar whether they were drinking or not. This caused a problem for those of us there for tasting because there was nowhere we could get service since people were hanging out at the bar socializing with thee staff. We had to flag someone over so we could get our tasting going and even then it was an effort from one wine to another. We ended up buying one bottle of wine to try a bit more and the lady ringing us up seemed put out by having to do something. We took the tour of the facility and how they make the wine. I had done this before at other places but the ones who had not enjoyed it. The lady who took everyone touring (I think the owners daughter) was very friendly and answered most all questions. All in all the customer service in the tasting room was pretty bad, but I added a star for the great service on the tour. I doubt I’d go back or refer anyone here in the future though.

What to improve: A way to take care of all the customers in some kind of a reasonable manner.

The winery has an amazing outside area for folks to hang out and picnic. Lots of space and seems kid friendly.
The wines were tasty too! We did buy a few bottles to take home.
Now I was not impressed with the customer service. It was lacking. It was not that crowded (a tad busy but not swamped) and it felt like the staff did not know how to balance their groups. The staff really do make an experience for someone and we left feeling not impressed with the overall experience.

After this place was recommended to us twice because they only had red white I thought we had to try it. I was looking for some bold reds and I thought this was the place. The overall atmosphere of the place is definitely lacking. There was no character and I just felt like I was in somebody’s house. As some of the reviewers mentioned before, and this was my biggest problem– they were all SOOOOO fruity. I understand a lot of people like that, but I have a hard time believing all of those zinfandels were THAT fruit forward. I kind of felt like they had too many different kinds of wines and maybe they should just focus on one or two as their main focus. I also see what people are saying about the service, it was by far the worst we received in Lodi– it was a cluster! I feel like they don’t know how to manage when there are more than 2 groups in there.
If you like fruity wine this place may be a good choice for you– but if your after a bold red– don’t go here!

Visited on 4÷5÷14− Rob and Jason were great as our guides through the tasting. I love their mischievous so we picked up a bottle along with their flirtatious — $ 20 a piece — well worth it!
The grounds are beautiful. The wines are delightful. It was hopping while we were there which is always a good sign.
I was a bit skeptical about going because I love their wine and would have been really disappointed if their customer service was lacking as some other Unilocal reviews indicate. I’m happy to say that we felt welcome and plan to return the weekend of May ¾ for their red/​white/​blue spring release party.

I love Macchia wines – great zins and many nice Italian reds – all my favs. I suspect it will not be long before only their wine club will be able to get wine. Go to their website and see the options to join. (I’m a Super Red, my sister is a Super Zin.)
I have only been on the weekends; they have always had a band, someone cooking something to buy for lunch (brick fired pizza this week), and a small but cute area outside to picnic or to enjoy a bottle of wine after tasting inside. If you are a member, you can purchase from their library of wines. Their gift shop is full of nice things too.
