Nara Pizza & Oven

So my husband and I just ordered a pizza from here (8:41PM) and their store closes @ 10PM on Fridays. You would think with this being a small owner operated joint in Addison, in competition with over 100 other restaurants, customer service would be their #1 goal. Apparently, my husband ordered an XL pizza and the girl who answered the phone put her hand over the speaker and said «You’re going to hate me, it’s an XL», then you hear a man on the other end let out a loud GRUMBLE.
Wow, I didn’t know XL pizzas and people trying to stay in business was such a difficult concept. Not a great start to our experience, a little awkward to say the least. Don’t want to feel unappreciated, there are several other places where we are valued. Hopefully your experience is better.

I notice this business has been tagged as CLOSED. It is still OPEN, but there has been another name change (first Farnatchi, then Nara, and now another). New sign up today for Ricci’s Pizza. Under same ownership, same location, same phone, etc.

One of my favorite places by my house shut down last month so I decided to give Nara’s another try. I had seen a flyer @ CarSpa that showed changes to the menu. The people running it now seem to really care about your experience with them. I met Jeffrey and he told me he ran the kitchen back when they were under different ownership. He said they were working on more offerings in the entrees. My group really enjoyed our pizza. I’m no pizza expert, but I’d describe these as gourmet pizza. We had a cheese, a BBQ chicken and a Mediteranin (SP). The latter was mostly vegetables with basil. All veggies were good quality and it was an excellent pizza. Had some extra crumbled Feta or Parm in the middle. My daughter has eaten every cheese pizza in DFW (teenager) and said hers was very good. My wife had the BBQ and I had a piece of it and loved it. It had some onion they added that gave it extra flavor. Atmosphere is basic, but they do have a big flat screen TV. I will be back and will likely try some of the entrees. I didn’t see any of them plated but considering their ingredients and the reasonable prices on the entrees I’ll try it when we’re in the mood for Italian.

Like many others, I miss Farnatchi. Despite taking over the business, and claiming to be the same creature, it is not the same. For one, the heavenly steak sandwiches are gone, replaced by a ‘slow cooked shredded beef sandwich’ which is a poor replacement. The topping are skimpy and the cheese is so scant that the pizzas look laminated, and whomever is making the aioli sauce these days does NOT have the same hand at it that they used to when it was Farnatchi. Pizzarella definitely beats these guys out.

I ordered delivery… an extra large pizza with their home made sausage and we ordered the chicken alfredo. Both were horrible. The crust, if you can call it that, is doughy and tasted like pita bread at best, and the sauce is bad. The toppings were scant at best. I couldn’t finish one piece.
The alfredo tasted like jar sauce, the portion was the same as a side, the chicken was thinly sliced and dry, and it was over some overcooked spaghetti.
I cannot with good conscience even remotely recommend this place.

Nara has taken the place of Farnachi on Beltline in Addison. It is much more than a name change. The pizza is completely different and the menu has changed.
We tried the spaghetti with meatballs ($ 5.99) and the four cheese pizza ($ 7.95 for a small). The spaghetti was OK. The noodles were al dente and there was a nice sprinkle of fresh parsley on the top. The sauce was too sweet for me, and yet tart at the same time. The meatballs were downright terrible. I ate ½ of one and was done. They were dry and flavorless. Overall, the spaghetti was a NO and I will be sticking with the tried and true Pizzarella for that dish.
The pizza was just sorta OK as well. They put the right amount of cheese on there and it was not greasy. I prefer the cracker thin crust of Marco’s or the fluffier Farnachi crust. Nara’s was somewhere in between. Meh… It was served with a marinara (again, too sweet for me) and ranch. I was expecting something more similar to Farnachi’s pizza, so this was disappointing.
The delivery was quick, but there were several glitches with my order. Their computer system was having issues, so they could not figure out how to ring up the spaghetti. I was not asked ‘cash or credit,’ so when the delivery dude arrived he was surprised that I was using a credit card. He had to come inside and hang out with me while I called the restaurant. Bizarre.
Well, I tried it and I’m not impressed. I probably won’t be back. Boo! I miss Farnachi!
