I had been browsing around for some local ice cream shops in the Chicago Burbs when this little guy happened to pop up on Unilocal.Thank the heavens it did. I decided last night that it was a swell idea to enjoy some classic chocolate ice cream to end my Monday. Though Uncle Harry’s is located in a strip mall, it was not difficult to find throughout the liquor stores and vapor shops. It has indoor as well as reserved outdoor seating for those nice nights. Upon entering Uncle Harry’s, the rich, sweet scent completely fills the place and hits you softly in the face. The smell alone was delightful and made me race to the ice cream casing before I needed a napkin for my drool. It isn’t a fancy place but then again most people aren’t there to examine decorations. The employees(I’m assuming family?) weren’t the most helpful or talkative but I decided that that alone wasn’t enough to be given any less than 5 stars. My boyfriend had asked the younger girl working behind the counter if this was their only location because he had heard about this ice cream in Wisconsin or something. She had said this is HIS(I’m guessing the owner’s) only location but the ice cream does come from Wisconsin. The waffle cones are also made at the shop as well! I chose 2 scoops of Chocolate Custard in a waffle cone while my boyfriend decided on the 2 scoops of Strawberry Cheesecake in a waffle cone. Both came out to be a little less than $ 11. Let me tell you that this ice cream was so thick and fresh that it almost resembled a brownie or some sort of delicious mud. I honestly have never seen ice cream so solid yet so soft! I tried some of the Strawberry Cheesecake and was pleasantly surprised that there are pieces of [real] strawberry and chunks of actual cheesecake. Overall, I would come here every day if I could. Uncle Harry’s isn’t a large place by any means and the employees aren’t exactly the most friendly but the quality of their sweets cannot be passed up.

The ice cream here is unbelievable fresh, homemade — REALICECREAM. I get the brownie sundae, I’ve never had a better classic brownie in my life. And did I mention the whip cream is homemade?!

Yummy! Old school soda fountain, coffee and ice cream… How can you bet that? Great staff to suggest and serve it up.

Really good homemade ice cream. Dropped in here today on a recommendation from a friend who joined us. I had a single scoop of the blueberry cheesecake which tasted amazing. Nice flavors, the blueberries themselves tasted fresh and it was nice and thick. My wife got the expresso chip which was also great(tasted better than the breyers expresso chip that we normally love). A friend of mine let me try his favorite, the«blue moon» which was mind blowing. After I tasted it, I immediately regretted not getting it but that’s fine. I WILL return and THAT will be my next ice cream.

This was my daughters favorite place for ice cream. I loved it too until one day we went in placed our order when it was time to pay I realized I had left my debit card in the car. I told the lady give me a second let me go get it she made a face at me like she was disgusted. I went back paid her the $ and left. Never will I ever return even if my 5 year old loves it.

The map is wrong. Not in the abandoned forest preserve off of mill Rd. Strip mall is NW corner of Lake St and Addison Rd.

The ice cream quality is very high. I did not detect any guar gum or other binding agents. The whipped cream on the sundae was fresh and creamy. You feel good after eating here. I even liked it better than Oberweis.

I’ve been going here for years and ALWAYS get the caramel pretzel ice cream. Fantastic especially with chocolate syrup. Buy it to go every time. This time I picked up 2 packs cuz I moved away but worth the half hour drive back for the chocolate covered pretzels in the ice cream. YUUUUMMM.

Great ice cream! It is so creamy and the flavors are spot on with a nice strong flavor. Very friendly owner and nice and clean atmosphere. They also sell ice cream in containers, ice cream cakes and ice cream sandwiches to take home. Very large selection of coffees as well. We loved it!

For the BEST ice cream and the SWEETEST owner/worker, this place wins! Was in the area and remembered hearing that there was a great ice cream shop in Addison. Found easily in a nondescript, has-been strip mall, the place was packed when I came in. Knew I was in a good place when the aroma was fresh cream, fresh fruit, chocolate and overall delicious goodness. The gentleman working behind the counter was apologizing to those of us in line, even when an apology wasn’t necessary. Nevertheless, he was working fast to get everyone’s order out as quickly as possible. My friend and I each ordered a 1 scoop cone, which was the hugest scoop I’ve ever had anywhere. The cone was fresh, the rocky road ice cream and my friends was something like blueberry hurricane. I understand they use Homer’s, the most delicious ice cream ever!

Everything is good there but the chocolate soda is my favorite! They have many flavors of ice cream for you to try and their sundaes are wonderful as well. They make their own whipped cream also. Don’t miss this place.

The store is hidden in a strip mall, behind the Portillos, but find it because it’s wonderful. They make their own ice cream and have some hard to find flavors(blue moon, vanilla cherry, etc), and they mix their shakes the old fashioned way. Tip: ask for whip cream on the shake if you want it. The ice cream is soft and smooth, just like you want it to be. Love, love, love!

This is a cute little spot in a boring strip mall. They serve Homer’s ice cream in a cone, cup, sundae, etc. I think they have been around for a looooong time, and I’m so glad a family owned business like this has survived! I’m a fan, and will definitely choose this place over a Dunkin Donuts any day. Just a tip: cash only for any orders under $ 5.00.

For the best pralines and cream, topped with fresh whipped cream, visit Uncle Harry’s in Addison. While you’re there, pick up a couple fresh cup cakes too, they’re the best! If you’re into cars and bikes, stop by their seasonal Sunday evening car shows.

I didn’t love it. I feel like I should be ashamed and not write this review. Seriously, I’ve put it off for quite a while. No more. I’ll put my two cents out there. We stopped in on a weekend evening for a sweet treat to round out our date night. The gals behind the counter were nice and patient while we made our selections. Basically, the ice cream was freezer burned. I don’t think they turn it over quickly enough. Or maybe they should keep it covered. Or something other than what they’re doing. It’s sad because the ice cream sundae left something to be desired and we didn’t even finish it. Hearing that from an ice cream lover, will tell you that something wasn’t quite right. I’m staying with three stars for now. It may have been an off night and the staff compensated with their pleasantries enough to make me want to make one more try some other day.

We stopped in at Uncle Harry’s in search of a milkshake. We were going to stop at Portillo’s but Uncle Harry’s jumped out. Boy, am I glad it did! I tried the brownie sundae with extra whipped cream. You can pick whatever two scoops of ice cream you like. I went with mint chocolate chip. This was incredibly rich. I was a little disappointed that they didn’t heat up the brownie. It was still good though. They have this blue moon ice cream. It’s bright blue and tastes like fruity pebbles. The sample we tried was incredible. My ice cream-panion had the Vito special: fresh banana, two scoops of ice cream, strawberry syrup, and whipped cream. This looked ginormous! He said it was phenomenal but partly because he added the blue moon cream. I will definitely come back here. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

I found Uncle Harry’s on Unilocal,as I love trying new ice cream places! It’s located in a strip of shops(next to Hallmark). The inside has a few chairs and tables to sit at, but there isn’t any room to sit outside. It’s a quaint place — only one person was working and we were the only ones in the entire place. There are plenty of items to choose from. There are probably 20 different flavors of ice cream and sorbet. You can get a cone, shake, sundae, float, etc. Everything is pretty cheap — my small shake was about $ 3 and it was plenty. They also have a nice selection of coffee and espresso drinks that are also cheap. However, they don’t have skim milk or anything«low cal», so don’t come here if you’re on a diet! They also have ice cream pies and ice cream pints/quarts to take home. Bring cash unless you are going to be spending over $ 5. Overall I would say it’s very good. It was nice to get away from the chain ice cream shops.
