We specialize in compassionate and loving care for all pets, big or small. We take pride in what we do, and often go beyond our «normal duties» for pets and their humans. We love our job!

History

Established in 2013.

Pets in the ‘Burbs Hawaii, LLC is a small business providing dog walking and pet sitting services on the island of Oahu. Having provided organized pet care for over a year working with dogs, cats, fish and turtles we opened our own doors in July of 2013. Pets in the ‘Burbs Hawaii works closely with the owners and communicates to the owner on a daily basis. We are experienced in administering of medication, transporting pets to vets for checkup and/​or emergency, walking dogs, caring for cats, attending to pets’ special needs, and much more. Our specialty is providing individual attention and care to each pet’s needs. Having our own pets for many years and sharing in the love that they give unconditionally leads us in the direction of helping others with their pets.

Business Owner

JoAnn’s interest and love of animals began many years ago. Steve, her husband, is also an animal lover and is quite the pied piper of all critters! Together, they formed a great partnership caring for other people’s pets. JoAnn and Steve were formerly a legal secretary and chef, respectively, and former owners of a soap making business, The Soap Box (Hawaii). They both now teach soap making classes in addition to caring and loving their clients’ pets. They both own Pets in the ‘Burbs Hawaii, LLC, and together, they provide compassionate care for all animals.

I am so lucky to have JoAnn and Steve of Pets in the ‘Burbs take care of my fur-​babies. I know my pets are safe and well loved when in their care.
First impressions are important and during our first meeting, JoAnn and Steve were very professional and loving towards my animals. I was impressed that they interviewed me as much as I did them. I also get daily poop-​status updates, photos and videos which is great.
And I know that my dogs behave better when walking with Auntie and Uncle, so my animals love and respect JoAnn and Steve.
I highly recommend Pets in the ‘Burbs and hesitate to move to another part of the island because I would lose their excellent service.

We highly recommend Pets in the Burbs Hawaii! Our Dog Cali gets so excited when they come to walk her twice a week! Also they have saved us a couple times when we needed someone to pet sit while we were away! This prevented us from putting Cali in a kennel and was reassuring that someone would also be watching our house while we were gone!

After moving to Central Oahu recently, I was unable to find a reliable, trustworthy person to take my dogs on a mid-​day walk while I was at work. Okay, maybe it’s just me, but when we dog parents spend 10 – 11 hours a day away from home, and the dogs are left alone, the day is long and could lead to possible destruction and mischief. A well-​exercised dog is a happy dog. Well, I lucked out and met JoAnn a year ago. She was THAT experienced and dependable person that I could trust to walk my 2 overly enthusiastic labs. She was not at all concerned when she first met them, despite my caution, that they were super excitable for the first few minutes. Mid-​day walks went without a hitch. Recently, her husband, Steve, joined forces with her and they are a great team. The dogs can’t wait for the sound of their car, and are spinning with excitement at their arrival and fun walk around the neighborhood. Ok, I must admit that after their walks with Joanne and Steve, their walking skills have improved immensely. I am no longer dragged through the neighborhood. When I am at work, I have no doubt that the boys are in good hands. Joanne and Steve are super reliable, arriving right on time and leave me my much anticipated notes on the boys’ behavior that day. I highly recommend Pets in the Burbs for the excellent care of your pets. I’ll be going on vacation soon, and yes, I will be calling them to pet-​sit.

As a soldier in the US Army, one of my primary concerns when I realized that I was moving to Hawaii was …“who will watch my baby girl while I’m at work?” (By baby girl I mean my dog of course). My work schedule is pretty unpredictable with my profession so I knew that I would need someone that I can depend on to give Sparta (my dog) some loving attention throughout the day.
That’s when I discovered «Pets In The Burbs». And I honestly have to say that I really lucked out on the first try! From the beginning Joann and Steve have gone above and beyond with their services. They treat Sparta as if she was their own daughter. It’s so heart warming to see Sparta filled with so much excitement every time Joan and Steve arrive for their afternoon walk.
I love that I get regular reports/​updates about their visits and walks with Sparta. My favorite is when I get pictures on my phone of Sparta making a new friend or simply getting love from another person.
I highly recommend Pets In The Burbs for all of your dog walking/​doggy sitting needs.
